Teaching the soldiers to think

The Army is going to teach the soldiers to think, according to the Chief of Army Maj Gen Neo kian Hong. The Army needs thinking soldiers. It is about time that we teach our boys to think. Looks like our world class schools did not include this in their syllabus. Any organisation that needs thinking workers must start a course to teach them how to think. And for those who have not been taught to think, especially those in the 50s, 60s and 70s, maybe it is time to teach them to think also. Then the govt will not have to worry about them squandering their retirement money away. It will save the govt a lot of work and trouble trying to manage their lives, and all the agonising that these people cannot look after themselves.

  1. How to teach Singaporeans to think when every single aspect of their lives is under total control, even things like making babies in the earlier days? When some Singaporeans do something as basic as choosing an MP, the moment they choose an oppostion MP they are subjected to discrimination. That, I think, says it all about asking Singaporeans to learn to think.

Do Singaporeans really bother to think when they are expected to conform to what the Government wants them to do. The Government is I think saying - think, but still do it my way and under my terms. Simple as that.

  3. The school isn't the problem. Once you enlist for NS, you ARE EXPECTED to turn off your brains and follow orders, no matter how ludicrous they are. That's the cardinal rule. Flout that, and they call it insubordination. That's how the military works.

  8. In malaysia and phillipines, as in singapore, everybody thinks. That's a no brainer? But what then is the pareto's principle? That everybody know but not many do? Do you actually think? Are you absolutely sure? The Army needs thinking soldiers, it is our only unique advantage.

  11. jack neo said. when the govt tells you to think, you think. when the govt tells you to do, you do. when the govt tells you not to do, don't do.

this is the short cut and fastest way to progress. and we have proven that this is THE way.
