Singapore is 6th most stressful country
We are now ranked as more stressful than Hongkong, according to Grant Thornton International Business Report. Can you beat that?
I know one sure reason why Singaporeans are feeling stressed. When you are earning $20k a year and queuing to strike toto every week but in vain, but you are told that many people are earning an equivalent of a toto win every 6 months or every 2 months, sure you get stressed.
How not to when all the queuing for the next 30 years may not even strike one toto prize?
Now U know why we walk so fast rite?
ReplyDeleteUntil world record number one!
Ooi, don't walk so fast leh. So fast for what? Catch the train ah?
Don't catch the train, catch yr breath!
Sengkapolians stressed - but not stupid. Still ;)
In a materialistic society where people are likely to questioned: what is your job designation, how much you earn, what car you drive, where you stay?, no wonder so much stress. Countries like Thailand do not have that level of stress despite being less well off materialistically. Problems maybe be ongoing but they are really nothing more than illusions. I suggest the easy but uncomfortable solution here - live simply.
ReplyDeletePart of the reason about Thailand is that 90% of the population are Buddhist. Buddhist do not see the accumulation of material things as paramount. You can satisfy your needs but you can never satisfy your wants. Those who understand this reasoning will led a less strssful life.
ReplyDeletei lead a very simple life. but i still feel very uncomfortable even i am debt free. and my children are already independent, on their own.
ReplyDeletei can't imagine how those people with a family and trying to make do with less than $5k a month. and mind you, statistically there are more than 50% of the pop in this category.
Think about yourself first, why should you be uncomfortable? A child knows that everything is relative and ever-changing, and that happiness is just a state of mind. They are always happy and positive, and are labelled childish by those who doesnt know better.
ReplyDeleteAiyah, money is just a medium of exchange lah... means to an end, not the end in itself.
ReplyDeleteBeing stressed is a CHOICE.
I didn't make 20k this month, in fact this month out-go exceeded income because I buimmed around on the beach more than I worked, and did it completly stress free. I was actually quite "productive", but not in the financial sense. I have a nicer tan, and was most of the time sipping cold coconut water whilst lusting over nubile Thai nymphs. You see — stress free productivity. The "experts" are right — the more stressed you are, the less productive you'll be.
It is wise to choose ones emotions and states. seeing as we are all mortal, negative states like stress, anxisty and depression simply WASTE TIME.
Please read my view points in my latest post, "Happiness is always in the Mind".
ReplyDeleteIntersting that they are now trying to teach people how to be happy in the States!
in this island, you cannot live off the land. just by staying at home, don't do anything, not even the internet, you still end up with a load of bills to pay.
ReplyDeletemaybe i should go and live off a temple or a church, be a monk or a reverend and live on other people's charity and donations.
No kidding, Redbean. If you become a monk you will have to give up all attachments to worldly concerns. Then you have to close down 'My Singapore News' and we will miss all the fun in commenting on issues brought up by you.
ReplyDeletenow that will be bad isn't it.
ReplyDeletei shall vow not to become a monk to continue to share my rude comments here: )
