Daylight Robbery
'On Sat, on my way to Vivi City for the first time, I made a wrong turn - I followed the road sign - into the road leading to Sentosa. I told the girl in the booth about it, but was told I had to pay $2 to make a U turn. This is ridiculous, day light robbery.' By Cheo Liew Kiat
No this is no robbery. This is Singapore, the unthinking part, the no thinking part, the rule that justifies the means.
You still don't get it ? In Singapore, peasants make mistakes, get fined to the hilt. ELites, however, get off scot free.
ReplyDeleteRedbean,
ReplyDeleteYou are right. In Singapore, failure is not an option, and you pay heavily for taking the wrong option. Failure is not option here unless u are elite or Lee's gahmen as demostrated in ShinCorpse case where Lee say failure is an "honest mistake".Period. Case close for Lee.
Singapore=Lee=Gahmen=Money
Here everything is about money. No money no talk.
i know the sentiments out there. but in a discussion i try to avoid such things. otherwise the discussion could quickly degenerate and take a different form.
ReplyDeletebetter to stick to issues. more acceptable to everyone.
The society are what the leaders are since they are governing and controlling the country. Everything come from the root. Solve the root, and society will be a different one.
ReplyDeleteIt's typical for our service personnel to be high handled ....
ReplyDeletehowever, i've driven wrongly into sentosa b4, but they allowed me to U turn without paying .... hmmm...
fonnie
yah, not everyone will behave like a machine. that will be frightening.
ReplyDeleteFaruq Shadhili did point this out didnt he?
ReplyDeletefarud talked about managers. this one is a toll collector.
ReplyDeletetoll collectors, managers. there's such thing as common traits for a people getting same nourishing.
ReplyDeletehi fonnie,
ReplyDeletesorry i missed out on your name.
a belated welcome to the blog.
our service personnel are trained to serve. and as customers we should expect them to serve. but at times service personnel need to be reminded that they are paid to serve. i have seen very rude service personnel and i have given some a piece of my mind.
as far as bad attitude, whether locals or foreigners, all need to be put right.
Whatever fines imposed on the rich ass elites are more often than not mere slaps on their wrists.
ReplyDeleteyou are right.
ReplyDeletein some countries, the rich are so filthy rich that they rather pay a few hundred thousand bucks and get away with the law. for money they have too much to spare.
this in another way is the injustice of justice.
