I accept and agree with all those who said LKY should not make those comments. The comments were definitely not diplomatic and will ruffle feathers across national boundaries.
But I am glad he said it. On the grounds of humanity, human rights, equality, fairness, etc. brutality, discrimination, victimisation, bullying and marginalisation of a people because of their colour and ability are unacceptable, and the world must stand up to such bad practices.
That is why we have human rights movements.
You obviously have no idea on the history of Malaya. When the agreement for independence was drawn up, the non-malays agreed that in exchange for being given citizenship, they agree that the Malays will have special rights and privileges. That is why the special position of the Malays are enshrined in the Constitution and the British agreed to it. So, now if those ungrateful bastards are asking for the privileges to be withdrawn, the Malays also have the right to ask those arseholes to fucking go back to China or whichever slimy shithole they climbed out of. It cannot be a one way street.
ReplyDeletei think you better go and read the history of malayan union, who is jaffar onn, tan cheng lock etc and what were the original proposals of the british. then you can go and talk about the history of malaya.
ReplyDeleteoh, the malays migrated down from yunnan, china to malaya. if you go to taiwan you can find some of the natives are malays as well.
you don't even know what is malayan union and you claim you know your history? but my apologies, that is the standard you are comfortable with.
ReplyDeleteprobably you got a scholarship to university with 3 'o' level passes huh?
Here, read this:
ReplyDeleteen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_contract_(Malaysia)
Then come back and talk. So typical of Singaporeans, always think they know everything.
Malayan Union was rejected by the Malays, you arsehole. That was an attempt by the British to ursurp the rights of the Malays.
ReplyDeletewell done. so you went to search your wikipedia and found out what malayan union meant. unfortunately you cannot bring the wikipedia into the exam hall. else you will score distinction in history.
ReplyDeletedo you know why the british gave special rights to the malays and gave up malayan union? do you know that the district officers could ask the sultans to sign on the dotted line if they wanted to?
now what is this nonsense about the british usurping the rights of the malays? you were all british subjects. subjects of the queen of the british empire.
please go back and read the provisions of the special rights and compare to the nep and see the differences.
ReplyDeletedon't look at wikipedia, it is not inside there. try parliament house.
yes they could ask the sultans to sign but the sultans did not. That's what matters. That's how UMNO came into being, to fight the British proposal for the Malayan Union. Under pressure from the Malays, the British withdrew the Malayan Union and put in place the Federation of Malaya. That was the basis on which independence for Malaya was granted. The Malayan Union is not relevant.
ReplyDeleteThe main point dear bean head is that special rights are enshrined in the Constitution. It was agreed to by Cheng Lock and the British. Get that into your bean-sized brain. The NEP is the implementation of the provisions provided for in the Constitution.
ReplyDeleteyou read your history from wikipedia?
ReplyDeletethe malays were lucky that tan cheng lock gave up the fight thinking that as long as the malay rulers allowed that chinese to ply their trades, life could go on as normal. that was the bad judgement on the part of tan cheng lock.
if he and the indian leaders were to put their foot down to fight for malayan union, the british would be most happy to keep the malayan union as it was. it was a british concept and they wanted the chinese and indians to be equal so that they could continue with their divide and rule policy in malaya.
the chinese and indians defaulted their rights by not fighting. are you going to say thank you to me for giving you a lesson in malayan history? or you are still going to read the half page history of malaya in wikipedia?
Haha, don't make me laugh. The Malays would ahve fought tooth an nail had the British not backed down. The British may have called the Malays nature's gentlemen because of their gentle ways but make no mistake, when their rights are challenged they will rise to the occasion and bathe the country in blood if need be. The Chinese will do well to remember May 13 1969. Keep on challenging the special position fo the Malays and that's what they're going to get again. Only this time, they'll make sure no Chinese bastard is left standing in Malaysia.
ReplyDeletethe malays would fight tooth and nail? don't bohong. don't make me laugh.
ReplyDeletehow come not a single bullet was fired when the british came to colonise them? how come the fighting against the japanese were done by the british and the chinese when the japanese came trampling all over malaya? where were the malay nationalists?
how long did the british rule malaya and the malay were so peaceful and contented to accept british rule?
they were lucky that the british were then winding up their empire and were willing to return self rule to the natives. your independence was not fought but given at his majesty's pleasure. not fought. get it?
and you did not get full independence until 1963. before this date, the british were still in charge.
actually if i were you and to know that my country had been colonised for more than a century without putting up a fight, and every time called out tuan when a white man appeared, i will feel so malu that i will bang my head against a coconut and kill myself.
ReplyDeletewhat right have you to face the world and brag about fighting tooth and nail? and today, after so many years of independence and you don't even have an indigenious industry to be proud off except making the largest ketupat!
Oh, and what makes you think I am even Malay ?
ReplyDeleteGuys, I think you should just chill out. This discussion, in my opinion has degenerated into a racist slanging match and has veered way off. Redbean, you just have to accept the fact that Singaporeans have no business telling other people how they should be running their countries no matter how much we feel for the aggrieved party on the other side, just as we detest any foreigner who so much as has a finger into our own domestic affairs. Respect is the name of the game. Peace, dudes.
ReplyDeletehi make love not war,
ReplyDeletewelcome to the discussion. i was trying to give this boy a little lesson in malayan history which he skimmed through in wikipedia. i must apologise to everyone if i have turned this chat into a racist discussion. i think i have not done that except to refresh the history of the malayan union.
as for anonymous, i will be proud of you if you were a malay. then it makes sense for you to feel strongly about the issue. in politics, this can be expected. and i can accept that.
but if you happen to be a rootless person who did not know who your ancestors were, then i have no respect for you. as for your vulgarity, it reveals only your poor upbringing. and i will not lower myself to exchange vulgarities with you. we are of different upbringings.
With all due respect, redbean, I think you brought this on yourself. In your myth 66 blog entry, you mentioned that you're against prs meddling in local politics. Now think about it, if you are opposed to a pr who lives in the same country as you from meddling in local politics on the basis that he has no stake as a non-citizen, what more a foreigner who doesn't live in that country that you're commenting on to know the delicate situation in that country. Weekend golf trips don't count. Why the double standards, dude ? Also, I think you just delete the entire series of comments in this blog entry. It's just so inflammatory and has the capacity to create even more ill-will and other neagtive emotions to your readers. These are emotions the world today can do without. Peace, dudes.
ReplyDeletehi make love not war,
ReplyDeleteif i am a pr or even casual visitors in malaysia, i will avoid discussing he sensitive topics there. and this applies to prs who resided in any countries, as guests, to avoid meddling with the domestic politics.
but cyberspace is a different dimension. it is like my own room. i am talking to my friends here. no one need to come a calling. to get into my room or house, one need to consciously key in the address to get in.
the cyberspace is a queer thing in the sense that it is private but also international. i think people are still figuring out how to regard this development.
the other point is that we all discuss issues among ourselves, whether it is local or international. what differentiate ourselves from those who are just flaming is that we discuss them rationally like mature adults or academics do. we share our views, agree or disagree without getting personal or throwing vulgarities at each other. we shall learn to respect different views.
the third point is that if issues are not discussed, or should not be discussed, it is like the 3 monkeys, see no evil, speak no evil and do no evil, and think everything is alright.
communication is very important. it broadens one's perspectives and allow differences to be discussed and hopely people understand each other's perspective even if they don't agree.
if humans and mature adults cannot discuss hot issues sensibly, then there don't deserve to be called matured adults. i would not say what the pope said about the muslims in that way. but i would not threaten or start to react violently towards him and all the christians. the differences between the muslims and christians should be discussed rationallly.
the most important thing about cyberspace is for people to talk. that simple. not talking is not a solution.
redbean I find the postings unnecessarily offensive. i think it is in evryone's interests that u delete postings which contain vulgarities. Your forumers may quit on u if you allow the mentally disturbed to mix here.
ReplyDeletehi anonymous,
ReplyDeletesorry didn't come in last night and did nor respond to you. my original position in my blog and forum is to be as free as possible without censorship. i hope that if i can attract decent bloggers and forumers here and we set the tone, others too will follow suit. but in cyberspace, i am prepared for a little nuisance now and then. there is no way to cut them off if they choose to be naughty. but cut them i will if they become unbearable.
in this case, it reflected badly on the blogger himself. i rather let his post remain for all to see. however, if more of you feel that i should delete it, then i will.
please let me have your views fellas. so far i think we have managed the blog and forum quite well and i am very happy with the quality and sensibility of the posts.
thanks fellas.
