not govt's responsibility to help the poor

we have heard this statement many times. it is not the govt's responsibility to help the poor. the govt will only help the poor when there is a surplus in the budget or in the govt's investment. is such a position acceptable to the people? what is the role of the govt towards the poor of the country, assuming that there is no surplus to be given away?

  1. It is not my responsibility to vote for the PAP in the upcoming GE despite of the goodies given out to sweeten the ground.

  4. Good morning Redbean, It is sooooo cold here this morning. Hope the weather is warmer in Singapore.

Whether it is pork barrel politic or not, the Singapore Govt is at least giving to help the poor and the needy. I think this is quite a good thing they do.

Some might say that the amount given is insufficient. Well, I see it this way, whatever the amount, there will be those who would grumble and cry out for more.

    Something is better than nothing??

  6. The PAP has passed this role to the charities. It is now the charities' responsibility to help the poor.

Main reason why charities e.g NKF always complain money always not enough.

  7. any where in the world if a govt says that it is not their responsibility to help the poor they will be booted out. it is the responsibility of the govt to take care of the welfare of the people, like it or not.

no help no vote. as simple as that.

it will be interesting if they will repeat this during the election campaign.

the trick is to pay as little tax as possible, and just don't care. You can't reduce govt power. But you can reduce the influence of absolute govt power in your life. :-)

    Really, less stressful...

  10. Actually that's wonderful. You've just proven what I've been trying to convince people for ages:

That voluntary taxation is more possible that people can imagine.

    :-)
