spp's mission statement

1) Give all Sinaporean Education at least College Degree (Lower Diploma) 2) Let their parent had more time with family ( Family Love) 3) Society need to help them when they are in trouble (Social Care) 4) Family Financial has no problem (career and business) above are 4 points posted by a spp member(darkbrightside) at the ypap forum. i would not call this their mission statement as it is just a forum statement. but it did indicates the direction the party is thinking or looking at. if i were to be in their position i will be looking at the following: 1. reduce the cost of essential services. 2. reduce the cost of jtc factories and offices. 3. reduce the cost of hdb shops and lease properties. 4. reduce the cost of education esp in colleges, universities and independent schools. 5. reduce the pay of ministers, public sectors and glcs by 10-50% for those earning above $15k per month. 6. introduce a citizens first policies. good foreign talents are still welcome. 7. review the cpf policies of withholding the withdrawal of cpf savings. allow full withdrawal at 55 years but retain $10k -$15k to purchase an annuity policy to provide an allowance after the age of 65 for 10 years. the above are just preliminary thoughts and need to be modified with actual data.

  1. this education thing got to think through carefully. it is a good thing to provide everyone with a good education. but if the market is flooded with graduates, then graduates will either end up as taxi drivers or waiters or become unemployed. and that will be a bigger problem. they will complain that after spending so much money and wasted so much time in school they ended up unemployed.

basic education is essential. but people are gifted in different things. we must have an environment that value different talents and skills. not simply a piece of paper. a hawker, a cook, a footballer, singer, artiste etc can be more successful than a scholar.

  2. why retire issue you cannot decide and a wp and ntuc issue? anyone, every party, can take a position on it. each can have his own views.

  3. hi darkbrightside,

i agree that manual work can be automated and computerised, or even farmed out to foreign workers. as our nation gets richer, we can afford to upgrade, like hiring maids to do housework.

but we must also consider that not many people can upgrade, not everyone is academically sound to pursue up to college level education. there will be people who will not complete secondary schools. and these people need to work. and sadly, the fact is some will have to do manual work and can only do manual work.

one example is the 200,000 people above 50 years, with low education and unable to keep up with modern equipment and technology. what kind of work can they do? they still need to be gainfully employed.

a society will have a whole spectrum of people, from the intellectuals to the illiterate. from the scientists and engineers to the labourers. there must be jobs at all levels for all people.

over automation will deprive those at the lower level with job opportunities. they will become jobless.

  4. the poor must be helped. and they must be helped to help themselves. we should not end up like a welfare state and people just refuse to work and live on welfare. this got to be balanced.

  5. Reddie,

It must be all dependent on the situation we have on hand. How can we help the people to help themselves when the primary role of the government (as such) to offer the environment is not effectively carried out?

You see, if we were to help the people to help themselves, we'd never ever have the resources to help. You might not realize the problem with such political slogan, but look around you...

It's only natural that under such thinking, those who need help will probably get nothing... those who do not need as much help will get more. And the environment collapse eventually. See?

  6. you are right elfred. we must teach people to help themselves. but those smarter ones already helping themselves.

the more they have, the more they help themselves.

and those who don't have, who need help most, will only get the leftovers.

but for political parties, it will be good if there get some sound objectives to start with. do some good to the people and nation. later when they have grown big and earned the trust of the people, then maybe pay back time.

got to start with some ideals and some sacrifices first.

  8. hi darkbrightside,

thanks for sharing your party's vision. i have only one suggestion. you need a good proofreader to polish up your manifesto.

  9. another point for your party to consider, darkbrightside, is to recruit someone, maybe an academic, who are well versed in political philosophies and systems. it will make your presentation and alternative views more coherent.

  10. as a political party you will have to adapt with the changes in time. in the past a cheecheongfan seller can stand for election. today it will be no go.

and your presentation is very important. you need nice packaging as well. the new electorate are young and sophisticated. they want the party to be likewise. even how the politicians dress and carry themselves are important.

and you need to put up good and respectable candidates. the old belief that a good man is a good man even if he has one eye and one leg no longer applies. pr is important.

  12. hi darkbrightside,

it is good to know that opposition will play a positive role in the running of the country and not oppose for the sake of opposing. chiam and low have gained a lot of respect and credibility for the opposition. they should continue to be constructive and put up alternative views when necessary, for the betterment of the people and nation.

opposition and ruling parties must grow and mature and develop a stable political system for the future well being of the country. opposition shall not attempt to destroy the ruling party at all cost. likewise, ruling party must not destroy opposition for the sake of destroying opposition. both have a role to play in the running of the country. they must learn to live with each other as honourable men, as leaders of a nation. not gangsters.

chee must change his style and be less abrasive. it would be good if he could make a statement to his new approach and image and be a good and responsible player. at the moment he has an image problem and attracts only a small group of radical supporters. he needs mass appeal, support from the middle ground as well.

  13. ya. if you need any political input from me,i will oblige. you can toss your party's ideas here and we can toss it around a little.

  14. hi darkbrightside,

you may want to start with the post on spp's mission statement i posted earlier. i did state a few points there which your party may want to review.

  15. WOW redbean. Your blog has become a bill board for s'pore's latest COMMUNIST party!

Jaga baik baik, yah kawan... political blogging is against the law :-)

    ReplyDelete
  16. actually the highest state of communism is the same as capitalism. and the communists of today are actually capitalists, or neo communists. ideologies have lost their meanings when pragmatism rules the day.

we are seeing the dictatorship of the proletariates everywhere, most notably in the usa and singapore.

  17. hi matilah,

really there is a law against political blogging? i haven't come across it.

i don't mind reading some of the info provided by darkbrightside. save me the trouble for looking for them.

  18. hi darkbrightside,

  19. sunyatsen was too idealistic. that's why he failed to lead china and prolonged the suffering of the chinese people. but that was history.

a good leader must be kind and sincere and also be a leader, take decisive actions for the good of the nation. make correct judgement for the general good.

    ReplyDelete
  20. that's a good way of looking at political leaders. just look at the good side and ignore the backside.

good also depends on which angle you are looking at? good to who?
