I say this once again, many jobs in Singapore do not need to be filled by foreigners. And these are good jobs that any Singaporean with a decent mind, even a daft Singaporean, can fill them, Unfortunately, because of the angmoh tua kee or Pinkerton Disease, these good jobs often were filled by angmohs or foreigners.
There is no need for a foreigner to take the top jobs to run parks, gardens, the zoo or the museum where the exhibits are about Singapore where Singaporeans know best or better than a foreigner, ... public utilities and services, medical services, tertiary institutions. There are jobs like running supermarkets, kopitiams, bus companies, taxi companies or even SIA that don't need foreigners. In SIA's case, Singaporeans have proven to have done very well, better than foreigners, to make SIA one of the best airlines in the world. Somehow, there is a strange feeling that some jokers are toying with the idea that foreigners would run SIA better than it is today. And eventually the foreigners will claim that they built SIA into a world best airline. Would the imbeciles be thinking of recruiting foreigners, oops, new citizens, to run for political offices, as ministers or PMs?
SIA is the face of Singapore, how Singaporeans run the best airline in the world, competing with the very best in the world, without foreign talents. The horror story is that some imbeciles maybe thinking of hiring more foreign talents to replace the daft Singaporeans to run SIA. If that happens, if Air India takes over the running of SIA instead of SIA taking over the running of Air India, it will be the end of SIA.
The imbeciles have forgotten who built and transformed Singapore into a First World city state and are in the process of replacing daft Singaporeans with foreign talents, believing in Third World narrative that they built Singapore into a First World city state. If the foreign talents are that good, they would not be here hunting for jobs, or their countries would be better run than Singapore. Do not underestimate the stupidity of imbeciles.
There is also a story circulating in the banking and finance industry, that Singaporeans are not good enough to be bankers and they should be replaced by foreigners especially at the top management level. They have forgotten that Singapore was already a financial centre in its own right, run by Singaporeans before foreigners were brought in to replace Singaporeans. Now the story, foreigners are the ones that made Singapore a financial centre, foreigners made local banks into world class banks. If this silly trend continues unchecked, all the local banks will be taken over by foreigners, especially those from third world villages.
Many businesses in Singapore, including bank managers, are not much different from running a chicken rice stall. Everything is Singaporean, local, the products and services, the customers and competitors are Singaporeans and local. The locals would have many advantages over the foreigners. Then why the clamouring for foreigners and international experience that meant nothing to a chicken rice business? A local bank manager is competing with another local bank manager in Singapore, not in the international market.
Singapore, especially govt depts, ministries, stats boards and GLCs should consciously reserve good jobs, top jobs for Singaporeans and no need to offer these positions to angmoh tua kee or foreigners. There is no reason for doing so except some silly vanity perceptions that foreigners look better for the organisation. You need a foreigner to run a supermarket? You need a foreigner to run a park or the zoo, or the museum?
Tiok boh?
PS. Singapore banks are rock solid and safe because Singaporeans set the banking rules and regulations based on our values and culture. And the Singapore banks are run by conservative, honest and trustworthy Singaporeans. No funny businesses and no clever accounting and practices. Caveat, when banks are making easy money like casinos, be frightened, be very frightened.
We need more foreigners to set up chicken rice stalls to compete with Singaporeans to make chicken rice stall better and more competitive. More competition means better quality and improvement in product and services.
ReplyDeleteAnd make hawker food more expensive awarding Michelin (motor vehicle tire-maker status) on ordinary vendors. What the heck is a tire-maker involved in ascertaining food quality is a mind-boggler.
DeleteSingaporeans are hit both ways, by having jobs taken away and paying more for food.

ReplyDeleteJust see and listen to Prof Tommy Koh's speech of the equality of Singaporeans in their professions and jobs
Just one fine example of the CEO of our Transportation industry of buses and rails services
He said the CEO been paid millions and the workers meagre salaries
What's so Rocket Science running this organisation?
Now every now and then increased the Transportation fares!
No eyes see
Sorry unequality not equality
ReplyDeleteApologies
In Singapore Pinkerton Syndrome is all encompassing to include foreigners of all colours, shades and gender and from all over the world, including villages and slums of third world countries.
ReplyDeleteHere foreign is superior and local inferior.
No wonder more foreigners are now CEOs and sitting on daft Singaporeans. Who brought them in? Who hire them?
ReplyDeleteThey need foreigners to run chicken rice operations to beat stalls run by Singaporeans in Singapore.
ReplyDeleteIn this world where crooks and gangsters rule the waves, finding a safe haven to park one's fortune is top in the mind of the super rich. Singapore is where the money is flowing to. Singaporean banks are the safest, run by a honest govt and honest and trustworthy Singaporeans. No where in the world is safer and best to park one's wealth.
ReplyDeleteDo not believe in the crap that foreigners helped to make Singapore and Singapore banks world class. Trust, honesty, integrity and incorruptibility are Singapore's hallmark for successful banks. Without the foreigners, the foreign money would still be pouring into Singapore because it is Singapore.
In fact, the presence of too many foreigners with unknown and dubious backgrounds in top management could turn out to be a liability, not an asset. If Singapore and Singapore banks are to fail, it will be because of too many foreigners in places of authority.
Trust the imbeciles and their blind faith in foreigners to replace them and Singaporeans.
