AUSTIN The United States is calling in a favour from friends like Singapore as President Donald Trump tries to rebalance the American economy and restore “fairness” to the international trading system.
Mr Trump’s ambassador to Singapore, Dr Anjani Kumar Sinha, offered that explanation when asked how the US President’s 10 per cent baseline tariff on the Republic – in spite of a free trade agreement since 2004 – aligns with the broader goals of the US-Singapore relationship. CNA
Ooh lala, the Americans sent a white Indian to take care of its interests in Singapore and the region. This guy was made to look like a dumb ass during a grilling by the senators. His face was a complete bland when asked about ASEAN. And the first thing this white Indian said is, pay up. This statement made many Singaporeans boiled immediately. The Americans are coming to extort dividends as if Singapore owes a lot to the Americans for its security and prosperity. Haven't the Americans collected enough protection money from Singapore, paying exorbitantly for American toys, including trade surpluses and friendly advice not to do this or that, cannot do this or that?
The big question to ask, who is the bigger beneficiary in the Singapore America relationship? Only Singapore benefiting and not the Americans? The Americans better open their eyes wide, wide and see who is their real and reliable friend in the region, who they can depend on, who is offering them military facilities to threaten and rule the region. The Americans have no friend in Asean other than ball carriers hoping to get some kickbacks and gratis from the Americans. Singapore is not just a friend but a trusty and reliable partner. Without Singapore, the Americans would have long been kicked out of the region. Don't forget, three of ASEAN's most important members, including the biggest and most influential member, are Muslim states, the perpetual enemies of the Americans by culture, race and religion.
Oh, the Americans have Marcos Jr to give them everything, including military bases. Sure, for now, for a while. This is only temporary until the next regime change. The Americans were booted out of the Philippines by the nationalists before. They cannot count on the temperamental Pinoys.
The Americans should be paying Singapore for the privilege to have a foothold here. And Singapore is paying a very high price for doing it, offending the Muslim states and Singapore's biggest trading partner, China. Any misstep by Singapore would see China breathing down heavily on Singapore. This risk is priceless. The Washington clowns and this new Ambassador are too daft to appreciate how important Singapore is to the American Empire...and thinking of squeezing more dividends from Singapore. Why don't the Americans walk out of Singapore and see what happens?
Singapore should let the Americans know that they should not take Singapore's friendship for granted, and wanting to coerce Singapore like pawns in their geopolitical game. Would the Americans want to leave Singapore should Singapore refuse to pay the additional dividends or not going to toe the line?
The Americans need Singapore more or Singapore needs America more? Singapore now has options. The Americans have no option. Singapore does not need to be coerced repeatedly by the Americans to do silly things against its national interests. Singapore can say NO to the Americans. Without Singapore, the American Empire will have a gaping hole in the region that cannot be covered up.
PS. This dumbass has the same mindset as India, that Singapore owes India a living. Singapore must throw money into India. Singapore must provide employments to Indians instead of to Singaporeans. Singapore will collapse without fake talents from India. Singapore must send Singapore dollars to India to earn Indian rupees.
