" Yang Chen Ning" is the correct and respectable order of Professor Yang Chen Ning's Chinese name and not Chen Ning Yang as written by the Global Time's editor.
The Western countries like U.S. and U.K. have always arrogantly twisted and change the order of Chinese names and thus trample on Chinese people's human rights.
Having said that it must be pointed out that Professor Yang Chen Ning's surname is Yang and not Chen Ning as irrespectably shown by the Global Times Editor. In wrongly changing the order of the characters of the name the editor is guilty of changing the Professor's honourable surname to Chen Ning which is a travesty of Professor Yang's family ancestral root and as must be pointed out all Chinese people have similarly and proudly trace their ancestral roots through their honourable surnames.
The Western countries like to arbitrarily change the order of Chinese names which does show they not only trample on Chinese human rights with regard to Chinese names but also insultingly flouting on Chinese culture with regard to Chinese surnames and Chinese roots. Changing the order of Chinese names by the West is an intended offence and insult to Chinese people and must be stopped forthwith.
Hope Global Times will take note and not repeat such scandalous mistake.

Has the Global Times hired an angmoh to be its editor? When is Global Times going to address Xi Jinping and Mao Zedong as Jinping Xi and Zedong Mao? Or Xiaoping Deng?

Today, every foreigner knows that the Chinese write their family name first instead of last like in the West. This is cultural.
Chinese value family first. West value individual than family.
Wake up, Global Times. You are supposed to set the trend, the authority in Chinese language and culture.
Would out local media start to follow this silly mistake of the Global Times and address Lee Hsien Loong as Hsien Loong Lee, Kuan Yew Lee?

ReplyDeleteIn every Chinese town and city there is always a Family House or a house with the important label of a surname. For example there will be family houses of a Tan Family House, Yang Family House, Chew Family House, Khoo Family House, Lee Family House and so on. In these family houses ancestors of the family surname can be traced back even to hundreds of years and there will be a lot of family artefacts and photographs of famous ancestors proudly displayed.
ReplyDeleteIn many overseas countries Chinese inhabited towns and cities have surname clan associations like Ang Clan Association, Chew Clan Association, Lee Clan Association, Yang or Yeo Clan Association and so on.
If you are a visitor in a strange town and have problems you can always seek help from your clan association and the members or officials in the said clans will be more than happy to help you and solve your problems.
So Family Houses and Clan Associations play a very important part in Chinese societies and in time of traumatic distress vis-a-vis against foreign aggressions and invasions they will rally help in whatever ways to help all Chinese people.
