Douglas MacGregor - Iran's Pearl Harbour

Col MacGregor referred to the Israeli sneak attack, without declaration of war, as Iran's Pearl Harbour moment. And there are many similarities in the two incidents. Japan was a powerful military power then, just like Israel, invincible in the neighbourhood and thought they could rule the world. Israel's ambition is to rule the Middle East. In terms of relative size, Japan to the USA is like Israel to Iran. Both Japan and Israel are industrial powers. Both the USA and Iran are also industrial powers but with much bigger economy, population and land size.

Japan celebrated its attack on Pearl Harbour as a great victory, like Israel against Iran. The initial impact always favoured the aggressor with the element of surprise and first mover advantage. The ending could be the same, ominous for the cocky and aggressive Israelis like the cocky and aggressive Japanese. History is likely to repeat itself.

Israel may feel confident that it has mighty America backing it and supplying it with all the weapons it needs, unlike Japan having to depend all on itself. In Iran's case, there are China, Russia, North Korea and several other likeminded allies on its side to offset the American might.

As the war drags on, Israel could count on the white countries like UK, France, Germany and some American cronies to join its side. Iran could count on the Arab and Muslim states and the Global South when this escalates to a world war.

The manufacturing capability of Israel against Iran is like Japan against the USA in WW2. On the other hand, the USA is no longer the industrial giant it used to be against a China and the Global South.

The initial success of the Israelis may prove to be fleeting, like the Japanese success in Pearl Harbour. There is no way for the Israelis to bomb the whole of Iran but Iran could bomb out the whole of Israel to turn Israel into the like of Gaza.

Would Israel be the next Japan? Oops, Israel has nuclear bombs. But Iran could also make theirs or be supplied with nuclear bombs by its friends. Pakistan already made the offer. North Korea would also be in the queue. The ending could be tragic for little Israel like little Japan. Israel may nuke a few Iranian cities but there will still be many cities standing. Iran could nuke every city in Israel.

China and Russia hold the key to this conflict. Would they be firm enough to tell the Americans, you nuke Iran, we nuke you.

  1. SEOUL: North Korea on Thursday (Jun 19) slammed Israel's launching of strikes to spark its conflict with Iran, and warned the United States and European powers against "fanning up the flames of war", according to a foreign ministry spokesperson.
The North expressed "serious concern" over "Israel's military attack and resolutely denounces it", the spokesperson said, adding that Israel's killing of civilians was "an unpardonable crime against humanity".
"The illegal act of state-sponsored terrorism by Israel (is) raising the danger of a new all-out war in the Middle East region," said the statement, which was published by state-run news agency KCNA.

EU and the AngloSaxons condemned Iran instead. Asean this time diam, diam. Big mouth dares not shoot from his other mouth. No principles involved? Unprovoked, undeclared war?

  2. Iran must concentrate its hypersonic missiles on Israel's nuclear facilities and turn them into nuclear explosions.

  3. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has found no evidence that Iran is making a “systematic effort” to produce a nuclear weapon, according to the agency’s chief, Rafael Grossi.

Israel began bombing Iran on Friday, asserting that the country was on the brink of developing a nuclear bomb. The sides have been exchanging retaliatory strikes ever since. RT

  4. How impartial is the IAEA? In its latest report on the possibility of radiation leak outside the nuclear facilities in Iran attacked by Israel, they reported unchanged readings.

So, what exactly was damaged and why was Israel targeting it without inflicting serious damage to put it out of service? For fun?
