This is a recent photo of some Chinese villagers in the Northeastern
part of China. (Picture credit to China Daily). They were teachers and students standing in front of a school. China is hit by falling admission of students in the village
schools as the young migrated to the big cities. What is nice to note is
the clothing they are wearing, the warm clothings and shoes. The school building is also quite new. This is
2013.
In the 50s and 60s, and even 70s, looking at their photos was like looking into poverty. I still have some black and white photos of my relatives in the 70s, in their best for photo taking. The children were barefooted and the adults, at best, were wearing slippers or sandals. The shirts and dresses were worse than the cheap sales in our pasar malam.
Those were the days that we even had to send food and western medicine to them. They have come a very long way, from abject poverty, without pride or dignity, to become the second largest economy in the world and challenging the Americans with the number of billionaires and millionaires. This is the new China, a very rich communist country.
Welcome to the land of the tuhaos.
ReplyDeleteIs this a model village?
ReplyDeleteDon't forget, China is a very big country, unlike Sinkieland.
And you can see all of Sinkieland within a day.
And welcome to Robert Mugabe - Singapore welcomes you with open arms.
ReplyDeleteThere are many parts of China much worse than Sinkieland.
ReplyDeleteOr else how can PAP govt attract so many PRCs to come and work, live or even eligible to vote here, tio bo?
And welcome to Robert Mugabe - Singapore welcomes you with open arms.

Casinos can so why Robert Mugabe cannot?
Who knows, he may even visit the casinos to increase our GDP! LOL

ReplyDelete[Let's phrase it, we all want riches]
"A new phrase which pokes fun at the Beverly Hillbillies of China has gone viral...
The latest phrase is tuhao.
Tu denotes earth or uncouth
and hao means grandeur.
The term tuhao can be interpreted as the “nouveau riche” or Beverly Hillbillies of China.
Generally, it is used within a sarcastic context
to describe the new rich people who are wealthy but lack sophisticated style."
http://www.thestar.com.my/Opinion/Columnists/Check-In-China/Profile/Articles/2013/11/08/Lets-phrase-it-we-all-want-riches
The tuhao description is quite appropriate for the nouve riche of China. They have so much money and simply go crazy trying to spend their money. It would take a couple of generations for them to learn what is living well and being graceful.
ReplyDeleteAt the moment, very like the Sinkies at a buffet. Many Sinkies are still at this stage of development, a slightly better tuhao. You can see them everywhere, even in posh offices in the financial district.
They are so boorish and uncouth, like the pork sellers in the market while strutting around in the CBD.
Please lah. Dun be so mean. Battling poverty is the daily grind of most of the world's population. And these "hillbillies" are coming out of poverty, so they can enjoy life on the level we all take for granted.
ReplyDeleteSo what if they are "crass"? What did you expect? Would you sooner see that they remain poor? That doesn't help anyone and drags the world backwards.
Best of all, these folks didn't rely on "government handouts" or "The Welfare State" to drag them out of poverty. They worked hard. They learned new skills. They saved money.
So give these folks a break please, you elitist motherfuckers!!

ReplyDeleteMy colleague in Beijing is earning 2.2k as a 3 year junior engineer, almost the same as what our junior is earning here. I have just came back from Beijing. People there definitely dress nicer.
ReplyDeleteHow are we going to attract talent by low wage policy and shoe box housing? I would rather choose Beijing today.
The only people who will come is Indian national. Because their standards are low, their country are fcuk-up, and hence the Singapore slum offer attraction.
My colleague told me for the past 30 years, wages in China are rising at a rate of 10%. Our?
Best of it, the communist government actually care for people and want to do something for them as long as they have the resources. The metro of Beijing and all other Chinese cities are 2 Yuan flat -- regardless of how long your distance.
All museum, parks are FREE to senior citizens.
Now PRC government is implementing free healthcare, so much loath by PAP.
In Singapore, you get bullied by customers, your boss will stab you further. When FT Indians complain about our poor taxi drivers, COMFORT fired them. In China I saw so many times the bus drivers, taxi drivers, ticket sellers fuck unruly customers.
No FT Indians dare to shit on anyone in Beijing.
In Singapore, you got beaten up by Ang Moh, PAP will let Ang Moh off the hook. PAP is albino-phille and they will not let Ang Moh do the low level job. They want us to respect Ang Moh.
I was in Shanghai few months back Ang Moh working as my janitor. In Beijing, there are Ang Moh living like begger and doing many manual jobs. When PRC see this, they have a lot of confident with Ang Moh. The realize China is rising.
Lee Hsien Loong is piece of shit. While China leaders try very hard to improve the live of his citizen, Loong has a vision of shit hole Singapore, modelled after India land of rape.
Eventually, we may be despise by everyone in the whole world.
When I am in China, I does not feel inferior against engineers in China. They treated me with respect.
ReplyDeleteWhat the fuck must we flood our countries with foreign engineers and deprive our young men a place to start? Given a 20 years engineer from India slum the same caste as caste-shit Indian recruiting managers and a fresh of of NUS, who do you think companies will hire?
I check out the salary in jobstreet and jobDB. The fresh grad pay for our engineers are so depressed that it can go as low as $1800 for mechanical and civil. Today, all fresh grad junior engineers in China Huawei is 10000 Yuan, that is around 2100SGD.
PAP think they can flood us my engineers and get innovative, The reverse is true. I have just got a few reply from US Tech recruiters like USA Google (i failed the entrance test few month back)....etc.
The abundance of engineers here make boss autocratic. They do not need to improve on their management as they can hire from all over the world. Our boss still think Singaporean management are world class.
They are dreaming. As I work in China, I compare and feel Singapore has very serious problems of office politics. I have yet to see any organization in China I worked in with some collaboration project, as shit as MOE-Ministry of Education.
Over supply of workers and high wage disparity between managers and executive is a sure recipe for backstabbing. PAP are still masturbating that they are world class government. Unfortunately China has move far far ahead while we are sleeping.
Or PAP wanted to make us India 2.0?
"The only people who will come is Indian national. Because their standards are low, their country are fcuk-up, and hence the Singapore slum offer attraction."
ReplyDeleteVeritas 11:26 am
There is a reason or reasons why we see so many of them in a particular line, eg in IT and in a particular place, eg Changi Business park. Could the above be one?
Ya lah,Veritas is right. I have never seen ang mohs working as cleaners, construction workers or even as cashiers. Has anyone? What is so special about them ah?
ReplyDeleteI had angmohs working as my batman before, serving me tea in bed, polishing my boots and washing and ironing my uniforms.
ReplyDeleteBut they were just like any other decent men earning a living. Very nice people. Not too sure about the fake talents we imported.
We are still trying to teach China? Like Veritas said, still having wet dreams.

ReplyDeleteI live in Arse Trailer. My gardener is angmoh. So is my plumber/ handyman, the guy who cleans the pool, the security patrol, my domestic cleaner.
However my lawyer is Indian and my accountant Chinese.
For blowjobs -- female from any race also can.
Watch China National TVs(CCTVs/CNTV/PHOENIX TVs凤凰卫视 ) to know the Modern China.
ReplyDeleteAng mohs working in menial jobs are few and far between. This much is true at least in Sinkapor.
ReplyDelete"Ang mohs working in menial jobs are few and far between. This much is true at least in Sinkapor."
ReplyDeleteAnon 5:40 pm
Real Sinkies working in menial jobs are also few and far between what, tio bo? I mean driving taxis is not a menial job lah.
Real Sinkies make lots of money as bosses employing or recruiting foreigners to do menial jobs.
ReplyDeleteThese are the smart Sinkies who know how to take advantage of PAP policies to make lots of money.
Of course some make more, some less but at least 60% are making enough money to be happy and satisfied to vote PAP every election.
If not ah, PAP will be in trouble.

Well, the EU and the US also have casinos, but they still impose a travel ban on Robert Mugabe.
