Old habits die hard

Hsien Loong has made several encouraging motherhood statements about how his govt is going forward, to be more listening, more flexible, more caring, and more inclusive. Putting all these together we can expect a more gracious govt, less purgnacious, more accommodating, more listening and a better rapport with the people. The govt wants to get closer to the people, to be more human like than god like, to admit mistakes and go forward together, no one being left out or discriminated by govt policies.

So would there be less policing of the critics of govt policies, a really lighter touch, less bickering in parliament for the sake of bickering, like you say it hor, I say you said this, be brave to admit it lah, then see what will happen? See, I challenge him and he lost. I clever right?

Would the civil servants and govt officers be less politically sensitive in the conduct of their daily affairs, and get on with the more serious stuff of the affairs of the state, regardless of political hue? Or would politicians still behave like little boys and girls trying to score political points at the slightest opportunity instead of using the Parliament as a platform to discuss and improve governance of the people and country?

Watching the clips on what was happening in Parliament, and reading what was being reported, I cannot see anything has changed for the better.

  1. He had been saying it for decades, the one and only problem is that nothing said has ever materialized.

Me believes Singaporeans better have a regime change than to hope for the leaders to change their styles.

  2. I agree with you,but it is clear that PAP now has a sense of responsibitiy and spend more time to reserch their usual motherhood statements.

There has been improvements in this aspect due to presence of W.P. members!

  3. It is a fact that all politicians given the opportunity, will try to score points.
Take hugely popular WP new MP,Chen Show Mao for example.

He waited for the good opportunity and brought into open the long known fact that non-PAP MPS in Spore cannot attend grassroot functions.

He was clever to pick the right time to score point and it was a clever timing when PAP president elected Dr Tony Tan plus ex PAP minister George Yeo,immediately advised PA to be fair to all!

  5. There is little doubt that Chen Show mao is one class above the rest.

or else do you think PAP can lose GRC with George Yeo and the only woman minister!

  6. It is only fair to expect that there are as good, if not better calibres in the Alternative Political Parties as well.

Chen Show Mao as a professional well versed in Chinese and English is certainly one that PAP Members have to reckon with. Some even said that he is better than the Ex MM Lee.

Me just happens to acknowledge that those with good knowledge of oriental culture and value are likely more wholesome than pseudo angmohs(Caucasian). Just a personal view.

May the Alternative Party Members' performances in the Current Parliament Debate wake up the electorate to make informed choices in future.

  7. Patriot, you are jumping the gun. Chen is only one super talent. PAP got a full Parliament of super talents. Everyone of them that is in Parliament is a super talent. They have cast their net wide and picked only the best. Simply no match.

  9. PAP just changed the policy to give president scholarship to China citizens.

As some day said:MM LKY is one talent only found in 10,000 years,so we are lucky to have Chen Show Mao and MM must have regreted that he did not give scholarship to Chen show mao.

  10. But sadly in the case of Chen show mao,MM could not give the usual boast that he has one super talent,I remember he only managed to call him celebrity and asked Chen to go back to China.

  11. No doubt PAP has super talent in the house but sadly all of them accept that it is their sacred duty to look after any one who is present in Spore, instead of looking after citizens who is the only group that have votes.Sad for our citizens but pl note-around 60% are still OK with this agreement!

  12. Any group of foreigners in Singapore is looked upon as talents and are one notch or class higher than ordinary Singaporeans who can vote.

How this came about is a total joke and the only country in the world that have this cocked-up system. Anywhere else and they would have voted out the Government. Not here, sad to say.

  13. To be recognised as a talent, betterer than Singaporeans, one must graduate from a third grade universities, better, not heard off.

Though NUS and NTU are highly ranked, their graduates are still not as talented as these foreign talents from dunno wat universities that are unranked. So there is an urgent need to bring in the better foreign talents.

I would advise Singaporean students to go overseas to these unheard of universities, then come back and manage the graduates from NUS and NTU, and boss them around, and appraise their works.

  14. @patriot

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.
    Abraham Lincoln

At least 60.1% all the time.
    Super-talent.

But I agree with you there are better than super talents in the Alternative parties.

  15. Talent as proclaimed by the MIWs themselves are respects they give themselves, not by others.

My logic is simple; if me claims that me am good and clever, the rest need have to agree with me. BUT, if most others say patriot is moronic and a fool. Then me thinks no point disputing with the majority.

Talent is synonymous with intelligence, the bureaucrats and technocrats in the Cabinet have plenty. BUT, do they have EQs when they are so egoistic, self serving(selfish), self-praising and authoritative???

  16. It is obvious that we are only looking from citizens point of view, but I think all ministers tried their very best to serve Singapore Inc,that is why Minister Lim Swee Swee scolded WP for their reluctance to train foreigners with our money!

We are the world pioneer in this respect,it has never been done in any other countries before.
