ORLANDO, Fla., — Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk predicted Friday that the future of war would be carried out by autonomous drones and not by legacy aircraft.
“The fighter jet era has passed,” Musk said during a fireside chat with U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. John Thompson at the Air Warfare Symposium in Orlando, Florida. “Drone warfare is where the future will be. It’s not that I want the future to be – it’s just, this is what the future will be,” he added.
Musk also said that Lockheed Martin’s F-35 fighter jet, which is the Pentagon’s most expensive weapons system, should have a competitor.
“The Joint Strike Fighter, there should be a competitor ... that’s a controversial subject but I don’t think it’s good to have one provider,” Musk said. He later elaborated on Twitter that the F-35 competitor should be a drone.
“The competitor should be a drone fighter plane that’s remote-controlled by a human, but with its maneuvers augmented by autonomy. The F-35 would have no chance against it,” he wrote.... CNBC
How many billions have Singapore just signed away for a dozen F35s? Read the above and ask if this is a sensible thing to do. Also ask how many drones can be bought with the billions that have gone to the few legacy fighter jets F35s? Just heard that they would start with 4 toys and option to buy 8 more. Let' hope they would save the money for better uses by not exercising the option. Paying protection money for 4 toys should be more than enough.
The F35s may be good for show for a few more years, but by the time they are delivered, they could be obsolete, money down the drain. As for future jet fighter pilots, oops, I mean drone fighter pilots, they would be looking very nerdy, with glasses and not very athletic except for their fingers and their brains. No need perfect eyesight, no need strong muscular body to withstand physical and mental stress, high pressure etc etc. And Singapore has plenty of them, all ready to take up such glorious warring occupation. Future war heroes are made of these...nerdy looking drone fighter pilots.
The Saudis are very happy flying Chinese drones for attack missions. So were the Turks, but not sure where they bought their drones. The Americans too are using drones instead of jet fighters to protect the lives of their pilots from being shot down.

Drones combined with Viruses - a new form of warfare. No pilots required in the air. Pilots hide in underground bunkers, like the major US Drone Bases in Guam and Diego Garcia.
No, the new future of warfare is not F35, drones or even hypersonic weapons. Viruses are the new weapons now being tested.
And it is so cheap, so easy to deliver, so small to carry around by one person, no need to train special pilots or remote controllers or carriers, no sound either and difficult to prove who delivered it, but easy to guess who did it! After all, which country ever used nuclear weapons on another during WW2? And which country already used chemical/biological weapons on another during the Vietnam War?
Buying of overpriced F35 and drones is to help sustain the Military Establishment of, you know who, and that is the job of the poodles to support it.
Nope. Probably next future is Drone 1.0 or x..version. But ultimately Humanity warfare will evolve into TRANSFORMERS type of warfare, its gonna be that, as most humanoids soldiers will be mostly wiped out by nuclear weapons..Humans will mega evolve into half humans half robots like beings in the future. It must be really hurting badly to the West to hear what Elon Musk said. And it must also be a wake up call for the democratic West.
How could China, a communist country, demonised to be backward and with a stagnated system over the centuries, compared to the democratic West, now stands on the threshold of overtaking the West, already economically so, and perhaps technologically overall, in years to come.
Was this a testimony to the failure of democracy, or a slap on the ignorant and arrogant faces of the democratic West? Now that it is really happening, the West cannot take it and remain standing still, watching China moving forward despite all the efforts over the centuries to prevent them from participating in every sensitive technological projects all over the world.
And so, if they fail to compete, they will use all kinds of underhand tactics to thwart China's rise. Those tactics have been used before against French and Japanese competitors.
The USA realise that using Huawei's 5G network will deny them free rein to spy on allies and enemies alike, so they sanctioned Huawei, citing security reasons, for which not a single shred of evidence has emerged. But then, they are going for Nokia or Ericson, their spying partners of old in developing 5G, which can provide them the continuity to do their dirty business of rigging the 5G system.

I'm a big "fan" of Elon. If only more engineers had a mind like his.

electric Drone warfare will mothball everything with a fuel burning jet engine. OK, maybe you still need Ram Jets to give electric UAVs a "boost". But that's it. All flight crews---redundant. Pilots---redundant (autonomous drones). Software nerds and hardware techies---HUGE demand.
Elon already disrupted (to a degree) payment systems with PayPal. He's going to disrupt ISPs by offering FREE WIFI to the world, and has already launched hundreds of satellite by his other company SpaceX.

Impending GST hike to 9.0% in part to fund the purchase of F-35s. That would please the Americans.
But the regressive tax hike would raise the daily expenditure burden of low-come and no-income Singaporeans (like me).
The deliberate increase of of GST to 9%, taxing even the unborn and the sick and dead, is very cruel and ruthless. I therefore curse the ones and their families for imposing this hardship and suffering upon us. This form of robbing the poor to benefit the rich and powerful under the guise of "helping the poor" is a blatant inexcusable lie.
GST is to help the poor? Help the poor to die earlier!
Cost of living, especially food, whether eating out at hawker centres or buying ingredients to cook own food, is an expensive necessity and a choice we can do without.
When coffeeshops are run by conglomerates who are able to outbid lesser competitors, the result is that it is customers who suffer, take it or leave it. Hawker centres may be cheaper, but how many new locations have hawker centres other than expensive food courts, serving below standard fare. Even then, some hawker centres run by NTUC are no longer cheap, with all kinds of additional add-ons to the basic rentals.
GST is to help the poor.
PAP is also to help the poor.
