The shamers being shamed

Below is an open letter, a prelude to an online petition from a group of professionals, artistes, lawyers etc speaking out against gutter politics in the by election. In short, the shamers are now being shamed. The people are disgusted with the despicable conduct and character assassination of Dr Chee Soon Juan.

"We are a group of Singaporeans who have been following the progress of the current Bukit Batok by-elections.

We would like to categorically state that we do not condone the personal attacks and character assassination made by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob, and Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu, against Dr Chee Soon Juan of the SDP.

We are deeply saddened at the manner in which the campaign is run, having deteriorated to a level that undermines our Singaporean values. It is indeed a sad state of affairs when people who have been entrusted with positions of power and leadership perpetuate such unbecoming behaviour.

We want an election campaign that addresses the pertinent issues facing Singaporeans, rather than one that is marred primarily by the vilification of anyone's person."

https://www.change.org/p/lee-hsien-loong-against-gutter-politics-in-bukit-batok-by-elections

The letter was read out by veteran actress Neo Swee Lin at the SDP’s rally on 3 May at Bukit Batok. When things get too foul, the stench becomes unbearable and the people will rise to protest. Human beans are not used to the stench in the pigsty and would not tolerate it though the pigs are comfortable with it as they lived their lives in pigsty.

We need to grow up and behave like decent people of a developed country. Going down and backwards towards third world politics and third world behavior would be scorned upon with distaste. Say no to gutter politics and third world behavior. Decent and honourable people will feel ashamed of such low down politicking and indecent acts. The petition and the signatories are saying it.

Does gutter politics represent the values and character of Singaporeans?
Did 70% of Singaporeans vote for gutter politics in 2015?

Who represents the values of Singaporeans?
PAP or SDP?
- Singaporeans voting in Bukit Batok
- your vote is a reflection of the values you stand for

The petition and the signatories are saying it.
RB

The petitioners can say what they want but this will not affect PAP one bit as long as the opposition is not ready to be govt. And to vote for such opposition as govt is worse than voting for PAP as govt.

In fact, without petitioners or whoever to say it, Sinkies who are not daft can already see for themselves things were so bad before 11 Sep 2015.

But PAP could still get 70% votes in GE 2015! Hence the one and only logical conclusion is that majority (aka 70%)voters had chosen the lesser of 2 evils on 11 Sep 2015.

Rather than just petitioning, the petitioners should join the opposition to make it strong and ready to be govt.

The fact that they (including Uncle RB) didn't will only make PAP continue to win future elections and remain as govt. In fact PAP will also win BB BE simply because majority voters think PAP's Murali is the lesser of 2 evils. It would perhaps be a different story had it been a WP candidate, even if it is a Ah Lian or Ah Huat, instead of SDP' s Chee Soon Juan.

An example of a country standing united to face a disaster in one of its cities.

A huge wildfire in Canada has led to the evacuation of the entire 88,000 population of the city of Fort McMurray.
- check out the social media and the blog
- strangers helping each other with fuel, food and shelter along the entire evacuation route

http://www.cbc.ca/news/trending/live-blog-fort-mcmurray-wildfire-1.3565398

Does the Canadian government or the state government ask whether Fort McMurray people voted for Liberals (the governing party) or Conservatives?
Did the Canadian government ask Fort McMurray to repent?

What kind of people represents Singaporeans in parliament and to the entire world?

Many many many people outside BB are hoping for a miracle.

Many many many people outside BB are hoping for BB voters to send CSJ into parliament.

Many many many people outside BB are praying that CSJ can "squeezed" into parliament?

Possible?

We shall see.

Cheers.

The greatest tragedy of the despicable dirty words of Grace Fu is not because of the words and its content per se., but rather, who she represents. SHE CANNOT FORGET THAT AS MINISTER OF CULTURE IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT HER OPINIONS WILL BE EXEMPLARY IN SETTING THE CULTURAL STANDARDS OF THIS COUNTRY. The way she belittles lesser beings than her, speaks volumes of the lack of culture in her soul. On all counts she is not qualified to be the Minister of Culture. The Prime Minister should transfer hrr to another portfolio or dismiss her.
The dirty words of Halimah is also shocking. SHE MUST NOT FORGET THAT SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT is LIKE MC OF THE PROCEEDINGS. WHAT IS THE POINT OF PARTISAN POLITICKING, SOMEDAY CSJ OR ANY OTHER MAY GET IN TO PARLIAMENT AND IT WILL BE EMBARASSING FOR THE MC TO RECALL THESE RUDE BEHAVIOUR OF HALIMAH.

I m so glad that there are some intelligent people in sg. These people knew the active election period is 9 days. Within the 9 days, they want discussion topics to be relevant to voters.

Topics relevant to voters are: cost of living, cpf, immigration inward and population, and citizens unemployment for the young graduates and pmets above 40s/50s.

However, a group of people do not want such discussions because of reasons known to themselves. They stated to attack the opponent s characters to set the agenda. It went on and on for the 9 days, leaving little time to talk about those relevant to the voters.
This has been the model for Singapore election. Many people are aware of the model used by politicians to win votes.

All of a sudden, we found someone began to speak up against this kind of SOP.

I respect these people. They make effort to free up the agenda for media on "election discussions for a candidate's character". Such election topic is not something worth thinking about in election, as long as the candidate is an official candidate. Voters must vote for the issues they are facing. Congras, Wise up in election.

@ "wise pithy sayings"

» They say the foundation of your society is in character, words and deeds. «

"They" (whoever "they" are) could well be right.

Singapore's "character" is openly and unapologetically MATERIALISTIC. Blatant and wanton CONSUMERISM is a permanent cultural fixture, and mental filter through which every idea, concept and abstraction must pass.

Singapore's words are mainly of incessant complaining. And the main deeds are shopping and eating---in keeping with their adorable materialism.

In recent times, it has been "cool" to sign online petitions as a collective complaint agains the government. Singaporeans posses the latest, top-of-the-line digital gadgets and enjoy 24-7-365 connectivity...they take the internet everywhere they go and rarely look up at the world because they are constantly engrossed in what is happening on their screens of these smart, connected devices. Boy, Singaporeans love their gadgets...another aspect of materialistic conspicuous consumption.

Thanks to technology, Singaporeans can now sign online petitions, complain like "victims" on blogs and forums anywhere they are. They don't need to be disrupted or distracted from eating or shopping or engaging in similar crazy CONSUMER CULTURE, and can get their "grievances" broadcast to the world.

Singapore is renowned for its efficiency.

Totally agree with you.

I have been watching the conduct and character of Grace Fu for a long time. And I fully agree with what you said.

I have a Malay Muslim friend who approached Halimah Yacooooobb for a donation of $2 (to buy a $2 ticket) at a Mosque one day when she was visiting the Mosque, but she not only refused to part with her $2, instead she sternly looked at my Malay Muslim friend and said that she (Halimah) would not donate to just any charity organisation. This is the kind of heart Halimah has even to her own fellow Malay Muslims.

Unfortunately Singaporeans and Bukit Batok voters are not like that.

Do you think Singaporean voters will sternly look at a PAP supporter and say "I will not vote for just any PAP candidate" ??

When Singaporean voters start doing that, do you think Halimah Yacob will be more generous with her $2 donations?

This is not a subject to talk about what Chee SJ going to do. I guess Chee will continue to speak up even he is not mp. But he will be looked up with more respect when he is a mp.

The subject is eomeone of motive to divert the entire election discussion on CheeSJ s character was rejected in this very by election.

The starting handshake between PAP dmp and SDP Paul T had stated they wanted to see the election to be free of personal attacks. This was very clear in words on msm.

Then during PAP first rally, the PM, Speaker, Minister all spoke about CheeSJ s weaknesses.

The contrast can only let public to see what the PAP had agreed upon and doing it subsequently are exactly the opposite.
Do voters trust the PAP? The agenda of those high officials was personal attacks. Whereas CheeSJ was talking about current issues in rallies.
I hope Chee will realize that people have hope in him. He might lose in BB BE, he must work hard to develop a base in the west. Time is running out for him and also for Singapore s future generations.
