SBF’s paper is about growing our own timber and protecting our own interests

The gist of the paper’s recommendation is about growing your own timber in three areas, growing the stock market, growing local enterprise and to add wings on them, growing local talent with more scholarships. In the last part, there are plenty of scholarships for foreigners, so this call must be read as fine tuning the scholarships for our children and to target them at the industries, not for foreigners to go home after a few years here.

There was also the exasperating talk about allowing more foreign workers as the restriction on foreign workers was targeted at this lower level where there was a real shortage since Singaporeans did not want such works. For some queer reasons, perhaps someone thought the need to fill up the Singapore’s equivalents of Chennai Business Park and Mumbai Financial Centre (MBFC) with foreigners should have priorlty over having more low level workers and thus the cut is at the worker’s level and not at the PME level.

The sick stock market is now spoken openly. The difficulties to raise fund from our stock market with its life hooked on life support is telling. Stock prices and trading have run to a stand still though computer trading still showed a little misleading life in the market. The reality is best felt by the businesses that found raising money is a dying stock market near impossible. How’s that for the truth?

The call for the revival of the stock market is loud and clear. GIC that is investing the people’s savings should apportion a greater percentage of its investment to support local businesses by supporting their prices in the stock market. Did someone said the CPF money belongs to the employers and not the employees? Shouldn’t the employers that are contributing to the CPF’s biggest share be looked after by the money they contributed?

But before the GIC pump in more money back into the local stock market, they better understand what is the real problem of the stock market. Why is it dying? If it is suffering from Aids, please do not try to scratch its balls. It would not help. The Aids is the killer, not the itching. Unfortunately no one wants to see the problem as it is. The elephant in the room is very difficult to notice.

Investing CPF money in other stock market is exactly like hiring foreigners instead of hiring Singaporean. Here they are spending money to grow foreign companies in foreign stock markets and neglecting our own stocks in our own market.

Similarly, giving scholarships to foreigners and not to Singaporeans achieved the same effect, growing foreign timber and neglecting our own timber.

So, would this serious paper, with so many heads putting so much effort into it, count or mean anything?  When would there be a change of mentality, to grow our own timber, to start our charity drive at home?

By the way, would they even acknowledge the problem faced by the local businesses? Would they acknowledge that the stock market is failing? Who said so? The market is the pink of health, the best market in Asia, the Number One stock market in Asia. What is the SBF talking about a moribund market?

Someone must be talking nonsense or someone must be stupid and cannot see the real stuff, or just listening to the good stuff. No problem, all is fine.

I don't understand SBF's paper.

If PAP can grow our own timber with tea parties and million dollar salaries and life time job security and career paths.
Why can't the SBF member companies grow their own timber the same way?

Why keep asking the PAP government for help?
Typical subsidy mentality.

SBF got no talents, PAP got all the talents what.

But how did PAP end up getting all the talents?

Driven to Kill – Why PRC drivers intentionally kill the pedestrians they hit
---------------------------------
/// I first heard of the “hit-to-kill” phenomenon in Taiwan in the mid-1990s when I was working there as an English teacher.
A fellow teacher would drive us to classes.
After one near-miss of a motorcyclist, he said, “If I hit someone, I’ll hit him again and make sure he’s dead.”
Enjoying my shock, he explained that in Taiwan, if you cripple a man, you pay for the injured person’s care for a lifetime.
But if you kill the person, you “only have to pay once, like a burial fee.”
He insisted he was serious—and that this was common. ///

==================
When it comes to voting out PAP, do you think Singaporeans should adopt the same logic?
Is it true?
If we vote PAP, we keep paying and paying for our entire lifetime?
But if we vote out PAP, we only have to pay once?

Actually PAP also knows what is in the SBF paper lah. No need for SBF to tell them. PAP can be many things but stupid with no good strategy is not one of them.

Hence there must be good reasons why PAP did not or have not yet implemented what is in the SBF paper and which RB also gave his support.

And for the same good reasons why majority (aka 70%) still voted for PAP, despite RB saying PAP is no good because of this and that.

What is good for PAP govt may not be good for SBF or even for Sinkies.

SBF and Sinkies should understand this before asking PAP govt for help.

What is good for SBF and Sinkies, may not be good for PAP.

SBF and Sinkies should understand this before voting PAP.

SBF and Singaporeans cannot live with dignity - never mind.
As long as PAP and PAP Ministers can live with dignity;
That is good enough for me.

Die hard PAP supporter

Redbean is again beating his xenophobic drums. I cannot understand why Redbean is so against foreigners who are here to help Singapore grow. The PAP government had 70% mandate in the last GE. They have been put there by Singaporeans to make sure the best outcome for Singapore. Please let them do their job and please do not kpkb so much. Xenophobia is disgusting. Live and let live.

Slovak PM Closes The Door To Refugees: "We Don't Want What Happened In Germany To Happen Here"
==============================

Earlier today, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico formally stood up to the Brussels supergovernment juggernaut and said his government will not allow Muslims to create "a compact community," adding that integrating refugees is impossible.

Slovakia has a tiny Muslim community of several thousand.

Fico's government filed a legal challenge last month to a mandatory plan by the European Union to distribute migrants among members of the bloc.

Fico said Thursday his government sees what he calls a "clear link" between the waves of refugees and the Paris attacks and the sexual assaults and robberies during the New Year's Eve festivities in Germany.

He says: "We don't want what happened in Germany to happen here."

Fico says "the idea of multicultural Europe has failed" and that "the migrants cannot be integrated, it's simply impossible."

If you are a Sinkie, hope you lose your job to a foreigner or your wife or daughter got raped by a foreigner, then you can go and kpkb to your beloved foreigners by yourself.

If you are a foreigner, go and fuck off.

"Ms. Merkel Invited Me": Refugee Sex Assaults Reported In Finland, Switzerland, Austria
===================================================================
On Thursday, we got what appears to be confirmation that the “hundreds” of suspects involved in a series of sexual assaults on German women were largely of Arab origin. According to German media, many of the men were asylum seekers who had recently entered the country from the war-torn Mid-East.

The assaults occurred in the city center in Cologne, where eyewitnesses and victims say groups of marauding New Year’s revelers accosted women, in some instances making off with their belongings. Attacks were also reported in Hamburg, and Stuttgart.

Apparently, Germany isn’t the only country that needs to “explain” things to refugees. Reports now suggest that women in Finland and Sweden experienced similar assaults on New Year’s Eve by asylum seekers.

“Finnish police reported Thursday an unusually high level of sexual harassment in Helsinki on New Year's Eve and said they had been tipped off about plans by groups of asylum seekers to sexually harass women,” AFP reports, adding that “three sexual assaults allegedly took place at Helsinki's central railway station on New Year's Eve, where around 1,000 mostly Iraqi asylum seekers had converged.”

Meanwhile, the first version of Hitler's "Mein Kampf" to be published in Germany since World War II went on sale Friday.

Unprecedented sex harassment in Helsinki at New Year: police
===============================================================
Finnish police reported Thursday an unusually high level of sexual harassment in Helsinki on New Year's Eve and said they had been tipped off about plans by groups of asylum seekers to sexually harass women.

Helsinki deputy police chief Ilkka Koskimaki told AFP: "There hasn't been this kind of harassment on previous New Year's Eves or other occasions for that matter... This is a completely new phenomenon in Helsinki."

Cologne Mayor’s ‘Arm’s Length’ Advice on Sexual Attacks Stirs Outcry
======================================================================
BERLIN — The mayor of Cologne has inflamed a debate in Germany about migrants and sexual harassment by suggesting that women can protect themselves from men on the streets by keeping them more than an arm’s length away.

The remarks by the mayor, Henriette Reker, were made Tuesday to reporters after the Cologne police said they had received more than 90 complaints of robbery and sexual assault, including two accounts of rape, by groups of men who targeted young women in and around the city’s main train station in the crush of revelers on New Year’s Eve.

By Wednesday, Ms. Reker was being widely ridiculed by commentators and across social media for putting the onus on the victims of the attacks.

“It is always possible to keep a certain distance that is longer than an arm’s length,” Ms. Reker told reporters on Tuesday, suggesting that the city authorities would provide guidelines for young women who find themselves surrounded by aggressive men trying to grope them.

Agree that idealism, to have good men and women to serve the people is a farce.

So another approach would be to tell these people, be realistic and practical, only one can be the PM and earn $10m. But it is not bad to be just a minister and earn several millions. And to get there, first must be able to get elected as a MP.

If they still want to muck around with their half past six slates, they can tan ku ku to even be elected. Want the money, want the millions, get your act together. Do something real and practical. Forget about pride, ego and selfishness.

Think small for a start and hope to win big.//

The end game is not about what approach the oppo takes and who be the what .....

Anonymous said...

When it happens in the end, it is not about being paid $10m .....

Anonymous said...

Assuming the end game is ( inevitable ) implosion ( going by current unsustainable economic trajectory ), the type of person who is willing to take up the ( shit ) job ( to try put the disintegrated pieces together ) probably won't want the millions bcos it is not worth it .....

Anonymous said...

The pay is likely a nominal $1/= gross salary for the one willing to step forward to pick up the pieces and try put together again ......

Anonymous said...

Short of an implosion, other scenarios are unlikely for the oppo under the current system .....

Anonymous said...

To draw an analogy, it is like the current stock market with fast, nano-second computing speed machines plug in playing against retail investors?

Anonymous said...

When YEW are playing pokers, and the opponents can read your cards, would YEW stand any chance?

Anonymous said...

When the level field is far from even, the possibility of any oppo having any chance short of an implosion is as remote as having "32nd" on the calendar?

Anonymous said...

Either way, it is "Tan Chin Ku" aka "Tan Ku Ku" aka "Tan Infinitely Ku" .......?

Anonymous said...

Under the current system, it is akin sailing in the high sea in a ........ ermmmmmmmm sampan?

Anonymous said...

And the captain with his henchmen do not allow the passengers on board to wear any safety vest bcos they "can own self check own self" ......?

Anonymous said...

And the passengers are told they should not worry that whoever helming the sampan could be incompetence and screwed up the job?

Anonymous said...

Some passengers beans keep kpkb that sampan too small cannot keep taking in more "economic refugees" but fell on deaf frog ears?

Soon sampan, even if it doesn't sink under way over loading, could likely be unsustainable for all kinds of reasons such as living, breathing spaces etc?

And the current mode of "fishing" to sustain the basic needs on board is likely facing strong headwinds and run into trouble?

Anonymous said...

Some storms along the journey may send the whole vessel "shipwrecked" ...... oops "sampan-wreaked"?

A new team with the captain paid at a nominal $1/ salary may most likely be needed to highly likely rebuild the sampan almost from scratch as a "broken sampan in many pieces" cannot float, much less sail in the sea and carry the sinkies ..... oops ....... passengers on board?

Anonymous said...

One analogy or rather real life ( success ) story akin to this "sampan" is that of Apple?

Anonymous said...

John Sculley ( the CEO who "ousted" Steve Jobs from Apple in 1985 ) relied on the Mac to "auto-cruise" ......

Alas by the early 1990s, Apple was caught up by the likes of Microsoft in its Mac's GUI ( graphical user interface ) features in the form of Windows 3.0 and by 1993, John Sculler himself was replaced by Michael Spindle ......

He failed in selling Apple to HP, IBM and Sun and was too replaced in 1996 by Gill Amelio.

Anonymous said...

Apple's success in the mid to late 80s was not so much of the Mac but innovation, creative spirit etc .....?

Without Goh KENG Swee ..... oops .... Steve Jobs, the creative soul of sinkieland .... oops .... Apple was anything but kaput?

Anonymous said...

By 1996, when Gil Amelio took over Apple, it's share price plummeted from a high of almost $100 in the early 90s to the teens. .....?

When Steve Jobs returned as an advisor in 1997, Apple's cap was at about US $2B, a far cry from its height when the Mac was selling like hot cakes with Goh Keng Swee ....... oops .... Steve Jobs as the creative soul ( and brain ) .....

Goh KENG Swee "left" the cabinet in early 1985, a few months earlier than Steve Jobs' "ouster" at Apple as the ( creative soul, brain and ) CEO .....?

Anonymous said...

Apple was lucky ....?

Steve Jobs was alive when Apple was "half-dead" in 1997?

He came to the rescue .....

Anonymous said...

After Goh Keng Swee ...... oops ...... Steve Jobs left, sinkieland . .... oops Apple ran out of ideas ( and innovations ) grow the cuntry ...... oops ..... company?

The parallel in mananagement ( policies ) is "chilling" .....?

The downward slide was like a "mirror image" and even more "chilling"?

Anonymous said...

Aiyo .....

Steve Jobs is dead. But ...... but ....... GKS oso ........

Aniballee who thinks the Sampan can be salvaged is
not too wrong.
It(the Sampan) probably can
stay afloat a little longer bcos
of some jumping into the sea
or throwing away some luggages.

The ultimate salvage will be
the remains of the Sampan at
the bottom of the sea. By then
the Captain and His Crew would have taken all the life saving devices and abandoned the rest onboard.
Even gods cannot stop the drowning but welcome their believers to join them(gods).

Anonymous said...

The 'Taikong'/Captain and his crew most likely would have takened all the valuables in the sampan with them as well

Anonymous said...

Anyone with any idea how to save the overloaded sampan in the middle of the sea ?

Rb has any suggestions ?

When Einstein was developing his Theory of Relativity and other great theories, he first started a conversation with the public. Then he got his great scientific ideas from the conversations and that made him a great scientist of the 20th C.

I think Goh Keng Swee also did the same thing, conducted public conversations to formulate his economic policies to turn Singapore around.

See, the great ideas came from the people on the streets, including great scientific and economic ideas.

Please forgive me if what I said are nonsense. I have dementia, I think.

Fate does not mean do nothing. Fate means do the best and all one can, face the consequences and got to accept the result whatever it maybe.

Many activists are working hard to better society and the world as a whole. Few succeeded and most sacrified in the end. Great people live not just for themselves.
