A story of a country - posted in TRE by a blogger called BK

Below is a story of what a country means and what it is like to be a citizen of a country that looks after its citizens.

Just wanted to share this amazing story:

How a country prioritises the needs and rights of its individual citizens says a lot about how much it values their contribution to society. And Japan is a living example of such a country.

Some three years ago, the Kami-Shirataki train station in the northernmost island of Hokkaido, Japan, was about to be shut down by Japan Railways —the group that operates the country’s railway network.

At that time, ridership at the train station had dramatically fallen down because of its remote location and even the freight service had ended there as well.

However, when Japan Railways noticed that it was still being used every day by a single passenger: A high-school girl, on her way to school, they changed their minds and decided to keep the station open just for her until she graduates.

While it may sound like an unbelievably strange thing to do, according to CCTV News, it was a decision that Japan Railways made in order for the lone girl student to complete her education

The company even adjusted the train’s timetable according to the girl’s schedule.
The train stops there only twice a day — once to pick up the girl and again to drop her off after her school day is over. The unnamed girl is expected to graduate this 26 March 2016, which is when the station will finally be closed.

And the Japanese government’s this act of making education a priority hasn’t gone unnoticed as social media users are all praise

“Why should I not want to die for a country like this when the government is ready to go an extra mile just for me,” one commenter wrote on CCTVNews’s post. “This is the meaning of good governance penetrating right to the grassroots level. Every citizen matters. No Child left behind!”

PS. This is the type of country worth defending and dying for.

Prior to the First Sino-Japanese War in 1894, the Imperial Army, Navy and Air Force were cash strapped. ....?

What did the ( Japanese ) general public ( then ) did?

Anonymous said...

For many businessmen, a huge chunk of their earnings were donated regularly to the war fund ......

Anonymous said...

Even school children saved their pocket money so as to contribute to the fund .....?

Anonymous said...

The most amazing thing was some young girls who were still schooling and too young to work "sold" their virginity ( to rich businessmen ) to raise $$$ for the fund .......?

Anonymous said...

Thereafter they continue to study in the day and moonlight as "young, underage prostitutes" to earn $$$ and contributing almost every single yen to the fund for their imperial military ......?

Therefore, if YEW try to find Japenis traitors to bride or work for YEW, good LUCK ......?

For many, the word "traitor" may not even exist in their dictionary or vocabulary?

RB, I think it is a case of stating the facts but arguing with the wrong reasons lah.

Yes, Japan Railways will close the station on 26 March 2016, but for other reasons, not that it is for the sake of the girl to graduate in March 2016.

Yes, the sun rises every morning, but not because the rooster crows.

For some others, 99.99% of their dictionary or vocabulary consists of only one word?

Taiwan Opposition Party forms government.
Sun continues to rise in the east.

But Singapore is different.
If Workers' Party becomes government, 70% of Singaporeans believe the sun will stop rising.
Do you think PAP believes that LKY will also rise from the grave like he promised?

Japan is one country that is very supportive of its people. They will go to extreme in order to protect its own citizens. E.g. killing of whales to support a small segment of fishermen & their families & fishing villages, even though this results in worldwide criticism & condemnation.
E.g. Die-die refusing to open up immigration to foreigners to boost their economy and replace their elderly workers.
E.g. Even half-Jap children born in Japan itself are not given citizenship e.g. father is Jap but mother is Sinkie or Korean.

Similar also to Switzerland.

Japan must learn from Singapore if it wants to have the same economic growth rate of Singapore. Open its immigration law wide wide. It will definitely have no integration or racial problem. The problem of integration will be the Japaneese people's problem, not the govt.
