Degree course for politician wannabes – Lesson 3

The politician wannabes must be clear of their roles as politicians when they are elected to become lawmakers. They have a very heavy duty and responsibility to sit in Parliament when the Parliament is in session, which happens quite rarely in their terms of office. Unless they are seriously ill, there is no excuse not to be present in Parliament.

The meaning of part time MP does not mean they can attend Parliament part time or anytime their want. The part time concept means they could still be working full time but when comes to Parliamentary duties, it must be full time. That is the most important function of an MP other than help the residents with their problems and how to cope with govt policies.

The MPs may go around hunting for soiled panties, taking care of stray dogs, kissing babies, taking selfies, etc etc but these are not their primary duties. Get the respective departments and officers to go chasing dogs and hunting soiled panties. Law making, making sure that relevant and effective laws are passed in Parliament, asking relevant questions, not about $20 or $200 issues and neglecting the $2m, $200m or $20b dollar problems. There are many very important matters to be discussed in Parliament that rat catching may be not so so important to the hard working MPs.

The simple lesson, get your priorities right. Do the important and the necessary. And know how to pass the buck, point the arrow and let the various departments and agencies do the running and get their jobs done. Part time MPs where got so much time catching rats and chasing soiled panties?

And it is not about running Town Councils. Leave that to the professionals, the civil servants who know what they are doing and would do it regardless of political parties in power. The interests of the residents must not be compromised by a system of musical chairs when the team going to run it could have very little professional knowledge or have to start to learn the ropes all over again after every GE. This is simply unsound and not good for the residents.

Get the point?

PS. Apologies for repeating an earlier post on lesson 2.Deleted.

redbean

So what is redbean implying here?
Is redbean saying that politicians are elected to serve Singaporeans?
- I always thought politicians are elected to serve themselves and their cronies.
- I stand corrected.
- I was wrong in my thinking

So what is it you want Red Bean? Do you want the government to offer you the best of everything? Be grateful that you have a clean and transparent government. You have elected this government to decide what is best for the country. If you do not like the way things are, then stop bitching and stand up to be counted and maybe stand for election and make a difference. Instead of writing this blog and bitching about the system all the time, just shut up and offer yourself to make the changes you want.

RB, you got a new bitch here kpkb everyday to replace that Raymond. I hope you keep a copy of all his posts in a file and use it for harassment case when he crosses the line like Raymond.

Eh bitch, you so proud of what you are doing, doing the right thing, why not use your real name? Why have to hide and dare not let people know if you are indeed a bitch or a man with 3 legs?

Wah piang RB! Faster call Woodbridge IMH, an inmate had escaped from there. Don't forget to bring straitjacket.

We have an honest and clean and transparent government .

Has to take 56 man years to furnish an accounts,
Better not stand as candidate and sua sua become government. Had to take 56 x 2 man years to clear the shits

Why redbean cannot blog and bitch about Singapore?
This is still a free country despite all you pig traitors' attempts to turn it into an emperor system.
Bitching and complaining about Singapore is every citizen's right and duty.
Otherwise the entire country will quietly go to the pigs with nary a whisper.

This is pure bullshit.
If the PAP government really wanted Singaporeans to offer ourselves for elections, then why is our election deposit one of the highest in the world at $16,000.
In the United Kingdom, the election deposit is only 500 British pounds.

anonymous 1.46pm pls note.....

The sum $16,000.00 election
deposit is likely to be increased
in the coming GE to adjust for
inflations and increased costs
since GE2011.

One day, the adjusted election
deposit may be $1,000,000.00!

Still want to stand for election?

Don't play play!

Cheers.

In my opinion, to be a good political leader you need to work from the ground up. One must be able to manage small things well before being handled heavier responsibility. Small things I mean town council matters, including operation issues, financial issues and management of people issues.

If they can't even do that well, how to handle matters of the state leh?

Anonymous said...

Scully within one year the govt turn from surplus to deficit, then how leh ?

Do crowdfunding on a global scale ah?

Budget cannot balance how lah? Borrow from China lah, since we all Chinese.

Rat Rat Everywhere!
Rat Rat Rat Everywhere!
Rat Rat Rat Rats Everywhere!

If you are a professional expert
in getting rid of RATS, you stand
a very high chance to be invited
to tea for coming GE by political
parties.

Be prepared!

No, I am talking about the ability of WP to turn AHPETC from surplus to deficit within two years right after they took over from the PAP. Also, their internal accountants employed by WP gave up too. Correct me if I m wrong.

It has always been "guanxi" aka connection that counts. Not hardwork, meritocracy or talents.

Anonymous said...

It is hardwork and meritocracy + EQ (guanxi). That's why I always ask redbean aka RB to swim in the right river.

Chua Chin Leng aka redbean said...

Hahaha, swimming in the right river. I swim in the longkangs.

The recent mrt disruptions were extremely negative for PAP.

The swing votes will be affected.

How to win them back?

Very very difficult. Unless there are resignations.

Too bad. 人算不如天算!

Cheers.

Anonymous said...

That's why you are always complaining everyday. Maybe its too late for you to change but make sure you don't allow your grandchildren to swim in the longangs with you. Longangs looks safe but I tell you its more dangerous than swimming in the river.

Why you talk peanuts?
Such a derisory amount of money?
Why not you ask how much money has been lost by GIC and Temasek in their mis-investment adventures?
Why not you ask PAP Millionaire Balakrishnan how he manage to overspend $300 million dollars in his Youth olympics white elephant project?

What about PAP Millionaire of State Desmond Lee?
Does not seem very capable of controlling the rats in his GRC.
Does this also imply Desmond Lee may not be very capable as a Minister of State?

Desmond.
What happened to you and your Town Council team?

Certainly it’s probably fair to say that the viability of Obama’s candidacy rested on the speech.

The grants given to PAP wards and WP wards are of different amount as granted by our Honorable Minister of ND.

According to their statistics of what comprises the different status of the units of flats and also their flats sizes.

Who the HELL knows the different in the PAP and WP wards???

That's why AHPETC always have deficit.

Previously under PAP sure surplus as this Yeo is there and kaki lang.

Now under WP, where got same??

Virgo49 said...

Hi RB, remember good old days muddy pond at Bukit Permai facing our old Radin Mas School.

We used to swim in that muddy pond as no swimming pools available.

Why got drown? You tell me!

Lokang fish at Railway Station we catch also also no drown!

We are the rugged society as proclaimed by our Great Leader LKY.

Now 18 year olds running 100 meters also die of heart attack.

How to compare???

Singapore has the smallest train network in Asia.
And still got so many screw ups.
Since PAP government is unable to deliver a reliable train system in one of the smallest country in the world; Do you think they are capable of managing our sovereign funds ... one of the largest in the world???

Virgo 49 said...

Just looked at HK MTR. Longer service than our MRT and many improvements also followed them.

Why never hear off their breakdowns??

Because they spent on maintenance not like Singapore spend on profits for their Shareholders.

Cable lugs also fall and only think of profits from retail rentals and not running a logistics business.

Since Redbean deleted the post "Lesson 2", I submit my comment on that thread for consideration, as it contains points for budding/ wannabe politicians to consider---aka the skills required to manipulate sheeple:

====begin deleted comment====

Another piece of wrong rubbish from redbean.

Hey Uncle smart arse, how come a monarchy like Thailand or (once upon a time) "Great" Britain or Sweden or Holland have democracy?

How come a republic like Singapore has very little democracy, but a dictatorship? (Thankfully, a benign one).

Any wannabe politician needs to study Machiavelli. And psychology. And neuroscience. A politician who cannot manipulate masses toward specific goals of people is unlikely to succeed.

A politician is first a social engineer. In order to "give the sheeple the govt they deserve", the wannabe politician has got to be able to use human weakness in large groups against themselves. He must find the right SWITCHES in the human minds, and know when to apply them.

Redbean's article here displays stunningly poor scholarship---i.e. the "facts" are far from being correct. I find this surprising from one who is a published author.

====end===

@ redbean:

>> And know how to pass the buck, point the arrow and let the various departments and agencies do the running and get their jobs done

This is only half the job. Not only should you pass the buck, but you should frame any rival for the blame with the objective assassinating their character and any good standing, to the point they are thrown out, demoted or jailed such that no longer pose a threat to you and your nefarious designs, ego-centric political ambitions, and of course your insatiable lust for power and influence.

There are certain neural circuits or "switches" in every human being which if "stimulated" will draw people to you and your objectives---even if doing so will lead to their detriment of well-being.

In addition to Machiavelli, the budding student of political evils should study Bathazar Gracian, and of course 21st century Kahneman and Tversky, who have solid data gained form numerous experiments conducted over 30 years.

Also important is the work and various terrifying experiments of Yale's Stanley Milgrim on how people will tend to OBEY AUTHORITY even if it means becoming immoral and compromising their own principles as well as common decency and morality. i.e. if you can attain "authority" in the minds of people, they will do the most unthinkable things by your suggestion or command.

Yes, there is much for budding politicians to learn. So get cracking, and study hard :-))

Hi Virgo,

Can't remember the muddy pond. What was in front of Radin Mas was the football field and Kampong Radin Mas.
