What is a political party?

The question is basic, but needs to be asked again as daft Sinkies are still too daft to understand what is a political party. To the daft Sinkies there is only one right political party and the rest are bordering on being anti establishment, anti country and anti people, or simply irresponsible, reckless and fools. A political party is a legal institution protected under the Constitution. The Constitution also provides for freedom of association or joining an association like a political party, and freedom of expression.
A political party is not a criminal party or association. A political party is not anti country or anti state unless it is stated in the party’s manifesto. A political party is not an enemy of the state or govt. So is a member of a political party.

Joining a political party or being a member of a political party is not a crime or an offence against the law. Organisations or institutions forbidding its staff from joining a political party are acting against the Constitution. It is not funny when the PM and ministers and all MPs and civil servants, except those running as independent, are or can be members of a political party and organization but institutions, got the gumption to forbid its staff to join political parties. There could be some exceptions but with very exceptional reasons to be exempted under the Constitution to do otherwise. It is not a crime or an offense to join a political party.

Why are some parties/party members be viewed, perceived or treated like they were enemies of the state, or criminals, by virtue of the fact that they are political parties or members of political parties? Any political party can be the ruling govt if they win a GE, and the incumbent ruling party would have to step down and be one of the many alternative parties. All political parties are equal under the provisions of the law and have an equal right to contest for political office to form the govt.

The perceptions that alternative political parties and membership to political parties are negative or anti establishment, they are enemies of the state or criminals, or meaning to do no good must be put right. A political party is there to offer itself to serve the people and country with alternative policies. And it is the right of the people to choose whichever party and their policies to run the country. No political party has a special birth right to be the ruling party of the country. This right must come from the people, must be given by the people, with the consent of the people.

Kopi Level - Blue, thank you.

The Singapore system is broken. There are no checks and balances. Who inherits the power will get absolute power which breeds dictatorship, corruption, nepotism plus all the ailments that usually afflicted those poor 3rd World countries.

Because the system is broken, there is no strict separation of powers between the executive, legislative and judiciary arms of the government. The legalistic arm is favorably been used as a weapon to destroy political enemies.

There exists a constitution, but it is conveniently ignored because the legalistic arm is not able to guard and protect its independence against interference and manipulation.

We need here a real reform of the system, a true constitutional reform to check abuses of power. There is no such thing as so-called Asian values being used as an excuse to prevent this from being implemented.

Human beings, no matter black , yellow or white are all the same, have their own selfishness. Power corrupts, absolute power even worst and therefore we need real and enough of checks and balances to curb any abuse of power.

This not just about replacing or voting out a political party. We need real political reforms, if without this, it will just be voting out a tyrant and replacing it with another new tyrant.

There is nothing wrong with the Singapore political system.
It's just that Singaporeans don't know how to behave (vote responsibly) in a democracy.

If the washing machine is not working properly ... try reading the operating manual before buying a new washing machine.

Rules of Responsible Citizenship
--------------------------------
1. A citizen's first loyalty is to the Constitution of Singapore.
Not a book called "The Half Truths".
Study Singapore's Constitution first before reading 'The Half Truths"

2. As a citizen, your first duty is to question any politician: "How will it benefit me if I voted for you?"
- If Singaporeans do not know what is good and bad for themselves, how will they be able to decide which is a good or bad political party.
- Singapore is made up of Singaporeans. Singapore and Singaporeans is the same thing.
- what is good for Singaporeans is good for Singapore.

>> No political party has a special birth right to be the ruling party of the country.

Except Singapore lah. You'll find things in the cultural-social-political fabric here which do not exist anywhere else.

For e.g.: our politicians in office are the highest paid in the world, and this is not a "new thing" as it's been a fixture in the culture and the politics for DECADES. People complain about it, but they seem to be OK with it as politician salaries trend UPWARDS.

>>This right must come from the people, must be given by the people, with the consent of the people.

The sheeple have given their consent over and over again. Which is why they get the parliament and hence the cuntry they deserve.

Forget for a moment the idea of political parties. I would prefer to see more single, unaffiliated INDEPENDENT candidates --- a mark of TRUE plurality.

Singapore is not even CLOSE to achieving that situation in her politics. In fact, the fucking idea is probably alien to most peoples' consciousness.

The idea of "democracy: is arse-about backwards here. Forget about democracy lah...go for REAL plurality...a polity so diverse you cannot define the candidates by just sticking cookie-cutter labels on them.

RB

But that doesn't mean they are all equally ready to form the govt what.

And if 60% Sinkies think it is not right for political parties to form the govt, then who are u to say otherwise, u tell me lah?

Correction to above in bold

And if 60% Sinkies think it is not right for SOME political parties to form the govt,......

Some Sinkies have been made to think that joining a political party is like joining a secret society and become a gangster or criminal unless they join the right party.

Rules are written by victors. Civil servants comply because of concern to their job security. Only few are blind followers.

The chinese are one patience race. They usually overthrow their rulers once every few hundreds years unlike all other races. PAP is quite safe to be around for many years until they started to import and give citizenships to non chinese in big numbers. we will see changing political climate soon.

Not Cheap To RIP!

Posted on TRS is a letter to minister khaw from the Present & Future Fernvale Residents.

You should read it.

In their letter, they said that the niche has been marketed at the price of $6,500.00, a discounted price from its original premium price of $15,000.00.

It is indeed not cheap to RIP!
