Education quality to be improved

In his dialogue with Poly students yesterday at the 17th Polytechnic Forum, Heng Swee Kiat said there was no need to build another polytechnic. The five polytechnics should be adequate for our needs. What is lacking is the quality and this must be improved ‘to make learning more engaging and valuable for students’. This about sums up the education and job situation here at the moment.

We are producing enough graduates but lacking in quality. The problem is solved by importing good quality graduates from the third world and they have the numbers we need. In the meantime the urgent matter is to raise the quality of our world ranked education system to compete with those in unranked education institutions in the third world countries. They have got their education system right while we got it all wrong. We are like getting all the branded goods, brand names, but all fake, unusable and of poor quality.

The issue of improving the quality of a flawed education system will take a longer time to correct. While the MOE is doing it, perhaps it would be better to correct the clear and immediate problems by sending our students to the third world countries that are producing all the great talents that are replacing our daft graduates. The second step is to send a few teams to these third world countries to learn from them on how to produce graduates that are better than our universities and polytechnics. And certainly, even if the quality does not improve, the cost will be much cheaper if we engaged all their top professors, lecturers and teachers to replace the robots that we are using to teach our students.

With this two prong approaches, we would be able to save a lot of cost in education and produce good quality graduates as well. We may not need all the world ranked universities and polytechnics by sending our students to universities and polytechnics in the third world countries. No need to pay expensive western professors and lecturers, no need expensive education institutions and infrastructures, no need to sell ourselves as the education hub when we are producing not employable graduates or graduates good only for second or third tier management, etc etc.

That’s the way to go, cheap and good, very good and very cheap.

Another brain dead Education Millionaire Minister.

The only thing wrong with our education system is the political ideology of the Education Minister.

"Another brain dead Education Millionaire Minister...."

Really?

If the Millionaire Education Minister is brain dead, it's the brain dead Sinkies that voted for them. Why need more Polytechnics or Uni when graduates cannot find jobs? FT are sacking local PMETs and so forth... replacing with their own kind?

Vote them out in 2016, wishful thinking! You only know how to blame others but never yourself.

"...pls help us....many are struggling... many are crying ....many are left behind ....pls help singaporeans ...."

Begging for help? I was probably 20% lone voices many many moons ago, begging Sinkies not to votes for the PAP. Can you imagine over 60% to 85% supported the PAP?

Too much power vested in one man and single party will ultimate lead to point of no return. We have passed the point of no return, Sinkies will have to live with it.

I knew what will happen even before the 80's. It did and the worst is yet to come, brace yourself!

Minister Heng should emulate his Fellow Health Minister Gan Kim Yong.

Take an Educational Tour to India to learn how to produce useful graduates.

Churning out top graduates in our top rated institutions who cannot find jobs is pure waste of talents.

英才无用地.

We are paying thousands of dollars to these poly's, and we don't get priority in jobs because of quality????????, after spending millions and millions of dollars and they still can't get it right!!,
Then, why are they still in MOE, if they can't do it means they can't do it, then why not give Low and company a shot and let them do it, if they can't do better, they can't get any worst either.

If the keep throwing millions like 16 mil into a freaking bridge, 200 over million into parks, 10 over billions into a gamble, etc etc, no wonder we have all fake grads, all cosmetics bundle.
While schools are loosing allied educators for special needs and having lack of funds to do more, the govt is still thinking about parks and more fucks, spending million billions. Having minister like shame ann in moe, the person who keep on saying let's move on each time sp children and issues are brought up.....we really have excellent mp's in moe.

Stupid idiots sinkies, keep voting them in, they are doing wonders to your children, to you and to your future, i wonder why i blog in the 1st place, waste time telling the blind and deaf.

Bro, wish I could articulate like you. Sinkies love to whines and blame others. Like you I too wonder why waste my time here. The present situation, bad all over from housing, jobs etc. and getting worst. I know of no Garmen in the world helping only foreigners but not it's own citizens. Scholarship, free room and board from secondary school to Uni, while its citizens suffer.

Only a handful, less than 15% or so had consistency refused to vote for the PAP.

Education is far too important to have the government run and manage it.

Go private. All the way. In the private sector, teachers and lecturers are paid according to their effectiveness in delivering proper education to students. There is incentive to be better teachers.

Fuck public education. Useless shit whicg succeeds only in turning out stupid and unlearned degree and diploma holders.

I am against you for not converting your friends, family & relatives into Opposition voters.
Complain and blog here not enough.
Must also deliver converted votes.

Your patriotic quota is to convert one PAP voter into an Opposition voter before GE 2016.
Have you achieved it yet?

You sound like the Tea Party and Republican in the USA.. Go Charter school? Who pays the teachers etc...? Garmen or parents pay themselves? How about the working poor and employed if pay themselves??

Do you really know what you toking? In US student borrowing topped the $100 billion threshold for the first time in 2010, and total outstanding loans exceeded $1 trillion for the first time in 2011. Most loan were guarantee by the Federal Garmen, default the Garmen pay the profiteers like Phoenix, DeVry University... States and Private Uni.

I think in twenty years time, no one need to go universities. Everyone can just learn anything they prefer from online universities at a small fraction of the costs currently set up by MOE to screw the parents pensions fund of the students.

RB, why not email your entire article to this million dollars tax-payer financed minister of EDUCATION and see what he has to say?

DON'T FORGET TO cc to all the other 86 elected officials as well as the 9 NMPs plus the "soon to become statue liao very hard to pass time" ex-Education Minister in the Istana. At least he has sthg to read to pass time in his "boring figure head job". Should suggest for occasions for him to grace like the NDP Parade 2013 and has chance to shake a lot of hands and wave to cheering crowds to "encourage him of his symbolic existence and still being alive". If "everyday staring at the ceiling nothing much to do sooner may go bongus up there".

Possible events may be to go round Singapore twice monthly to shake hands and wave to crowd at different MRT stations during morning or peak hours.

But don't forget the main msg to send out the email of your article to the relevant parties.

Otherwise kpkb here sometimes does not have the desired effect.

If that turns out to be the case eventually, I would tell all sinkies I ever know in the past, now and in the future to vote out this government. Maybe would consider throwing my hat into the ring as well and get as many like-minded I know as possible to join in this common cause to save sinkies from being eternally trampled upon by people who are supposedly public servants.

I am totally against any govt public healthcare or public education.

If you don't agree, and you get mad, you're the one with the problem ;-)

Living well is the best revenge -- to all the mooching bums who think that they have a "right" to steal from you so that they can rear the kids they shit out -- kids they shouldn't be having, if not for ll the "welfare" they get from the redistribution of tax payer money by The State. :-)

MERITOCRACY is Nature's way of deciding whether or not you are fit and relevant enough to continue existing. If you have the necessary attributes for "success" (whatever that means), nature will look after the rest. If you don't, nature will take care of that too. ;-)

Matilah

Nobody wants welfare if they can afford it, no body wants to steal also if they can help it......this is what is call the problems of the society which is not created by these bums, these bums, some have serious medical problems, unlike the americans, brits we have no handouts, of course those kids are not suppose to be "shit out", but who bothered to tell them that.

Meritocracy can also lead, bring the less fortunate together, do not forget that without others to compare there will be no meritocratic enviroment, its called tyranny.

Please at least show that you are a sinkie that carries some brains not some half niwt that only know how to use profanity and runs your own road, i dun understand why the likes of you is allowed here, if you have a period, dun blog.
