Over paying the super elite

It affects everyone when the system overpays in whatever ways. One unspoken and may be unnoticed fact is the grotesquely over paying of a super elite group in our system. This group of beneficiaries has members mostly in their 60s, 70s or older. These are very able people who have made good in life, with a lot of wealth and do not need a single cent more to live a life of unbelieveable comfort and convenience. They have everything material in excess. And with their dying years, many of them are going to die very very rich, with a lot of money unspent.

And they are still being paid by huge pensions, chairmanship, directorship fees, association fees, acquaintanceship fees, appearance fees etc etc. Many have long retired, many long past their useful lives, many past their shelf lives. But they are still collecting hundreds of thousands or millions annually, to fatten their bank accounts that they will have serious trouble using them.

For every one of these super elite, the amount paid could have been spread to hundreds or thousands of more needy people and make their lives so much better. On the other hand, paying these elites another million or a few more hundreds of thousands has become meaningless. It does not make a difference in their lives anymore than for them to smile at the bank statements showing how much more they are getting, that is if their face muscles still allow them to smile.

It is not that they are all worthless and not contributing or useless in what they are doing. The point is that they are in semi retirement, in retirement, or some, just passing time attending board meetings. But the most pertinent point is that what they are taking from the system is taking a toll on the income of many people, and making the lives of many people less comfortable. This need not be.

And this pool of super elites is swelling by the days. They are going to live till 80s or 90s, which means that the system must cater a budget to pay them the ransom they are demanding. The system cannot afford to keep feeding a group of super elites, oldies, that kind of obscene payouts for 30 or 40 years each. The money must come from somewhere. Where do you think this money is coming from? Who do you think is paying for them?

This system of paying the super elites crazily when they don’t need the money is best to be toned down, give them a small honorarium for their presence and wisdom. It is already an honour to have them, to give them some purpose and a little contribution, a status, a recognised position, a big title in some cases. What more do they want when money is no longer an issue in their lives?

It is necessary to redistribute the wealth of the country to those who really need them and not to those who don’t need them, those with abundance of money, and doing really very little except to grace the occasion and be in good company, to be adored in reverence.

Make sure they retire for good (sack them if necessary). And don't call them emeritus without portfolio!

Spot on. Tommy Koh, in one of his moments of introspection, had opined that there is an incestuous relationship when it comes to appointing directors - only about 200. LKY's policy of "I appoint you and you appoint me" to perpetuate his power seems to have taken hold in this little red dot. The problem is not redistributing wealth as you say. The grave consequences for the country of such practices is that they perpetuate a collegiate system in which everyone in the in-group protects each other's interest. This will surely lead the country to ruin. These beneficiaries and their families won't be around to share your pain.

it is not true that the super elites are getting mote money than they need to spend. These dudes are saving up to ship out themselves and loved ones to safe havens outside sinkapore when the ship sunks in 2016. Bloody idiots.

But the super elite are only a very small minority of voters what.

Definitely not 60% of voters.

And ultimately it is the 60% that decides who should be the government, the political and economic system, the rewarding of the super elites, mass importing of foreigners, etc etc.

So who is to blame for this state of affairs, you tell me lah?

The Sinkies are to be blamed.

Because the 60% are Sinkies.

Strongest opposition party but not ready to be govt is to be blamed. And they are also Sinkies.

PAP is to be blamed because they are also Sinkies.

So Sinkies are to be blamed left, right and center for causing suffering to other Sinkies, especially the 40% Sinkies would did not vote PAP.

Our version of Robbing Hood - robbing the poor to pay the rich.

"I appoint you and you appoint me" is what we call meritocracy. I am reminded that the PM said Ho Jinx was appointed by a panel to Temasek (was it for life?) but said nothing about how the panel.

Singaporeans will be much better of if they rid this society of these Leeches. They bleed the people dry with their insatiable appetites for blood(money).

The Leeches prey on the people oblivious of the sin of doing so and had their greeds all made lawful and legal. Such scheming leaders will ultimately destroy the wellbeings of the people and the society. However, the schemers care not a hoot as many should have made and carried out plans to scoot soon. They will be living opulently whilst the people will have to struggle for survivals.

How the people had allowed the Leeches to manipulate and exploit them all these years is beyond belief. It seems that Singaporeans have immense tolerance, if not infinite tolerance.

We got to look further. The high pay of the entire public service especially the top civil servant is not about meritocracy but an attempt by LKY to corrupt our society.

During the early 90s, LKY hatch a lot of evil plans. Foremost, he want property inflation, put Singaporeans into perpetual debt.

That cannot happen without the support of top public workers.

So on one stroke LKY pay minister million dollars. That immediately buffer them against all the shit of LKY' policy. LKY got a sidekick to help me. He is fucking idiot Goh Chok Tong, now pretending to be a good man.

FUCK THEM.

If top public servant pay rest in upper middle class range, Singapore will not fall into shit today.

Japan went thru 2 decades of deflation, I wonder how long Singapore will deflate once realisation hits that all our progression over the last decade are farce.

If you can live well, that's the best revenge to a power-skewed game.

It is best to totally ignore the going-on's in a toxic culture which you have no means or chance of changing...and get on with your own life.

Most of these buggers get what they get mainly because of POWER -- not from productive enterprise which actually benefits people.

So don't worry. Just do your thing, and acquire the values you seek without having to compromise yourself and your morality. People tend to respect more the "underdogs" who overcomes their obstacles and make something for themselves and get wealthy by serving others.

People tend disdain the folks who obtain their "wealth" by asserting their power over others by living permanently in their wallets, and helping themselves to the results of hardwork they didn't do.

Fuck them. Ignore them, before they drive you crazy.

"Living Well Is The Best Revenge" It makes your enemies angry.

What was the real growth if you remove inflation, inflated property prices and inflated salaries, and the number of foreigners adding to the head count?

@1201:

I would say flat -- no more than 2-3%, or might even be slightly negative.

Still, I'd rather be in Singapore (and Australia of course) than anywhere else. Europe is fucked. China is sputtering along. India has contracted. Japan is a basket case.

Come on, surely the elite are very cheap and worth every penny. Why, that emeritus guy once calculated that the whole Civil Service cost each Singaporean only a few plates of Char Kway Teow. So, eat your heart out.......

RB, it is like that everywhere - not only in sinkieland but all over the world. Fairness is a myth. Justice is a myth. Equality is a myth. The tax system to redistribute wealth is a myth. These are all terms invented by the elites to make themselves even more rich and powerful by suppressing the thinking and hence unrest of the general public. This world is full of bullshits.

Is there anyway to get these people collecting and amassing the money to have their fortunes redistributed to help the people live without the need to struggle?
The climbing suicide rate and a mother killing her spastic child probably to end his misery and to relief the burden he caused are showing that many had fallen through many cracks. On the other hand, there are some amassing wealth that they never meed nor are able to have the live and timeto make use of. Worse, by amassing wealth while knowing that many are suffering show that these people amassing the wealth through collecting esy money are scoundrels without conscience.

A society cannot afford too much extreme in anything, be it religion, wealth and comfort(wellbeing). Those who hoard wealth without need to use them are sinners when their fellow citizens do not even have money for food and treatment for illness and poor health.

Something must be done to correct the bad situation and Singaporeans are responsible for the collective action.

Or are Singaporeans ONLY CONCERN ABOUT THEMSELVES?

[Not true Singaporeans earn higher real wages]

"Mr Leon Perera’s Straits Times article highlighted the contrast between Singapore’s high GDP growth and Singaporean’s low income growth which he attributed in part to Singapore’s low wage share of GDP.

The reply from MTI’s Mrs Cindy Keng was that Singaporeans actually earn higher real wages compared to many developed economies."
