More PMETs retrenched

The majority of people losing jobs last year were PMETs, forming 54% of the 11,000 made redundant. The percentages for 2010 and 2011 were 35% and 42% respectively. The other interesting point is that the PMETs that were retrenched were getting younger, in the 20s, 30s and 40s, not necessarily the 50s or older.

The dicey part of this information is that without job security in Sin City, these PMETs that were retrenched are going to have a hard time, really bad time. Not only they have a family to look after, school going children, there is also the 30 year mortgage to pay for.

Job security in Sin City is a top most concern to all Singaporeans. They cannot afford to go without work for at least 30 years. And for these PMETs to lose their jobs at such early ages this is troubling even if they could find a replacement job fast. Any long break without an income is dire.

Isn’t this frightening? And we have several hundred thousand foreign professionals being employed here while our locals are getting the butts every now and then. This is no joking matter. As a country we cannot afford this kind of situation to get worst. It will only aggravate the already big pool of unemployed PMETs and will cost a heavy strain on the social fabric of our society.

The Govt and MOM cannot be cavalier with this problem as it will hit more and more citizens across all industries. The govt service may be affected too, including those in uniform or in civilian if the direction is not reversed.

I agree with you.

But problem is he is the father of Singapore's politic system, and he has power for 60 years. When he and his son are still there, the tone of Singapore's political system will never be change.

Just like no matter how sick or how incapacitated Mao is, China can never change the system.

Anyone who tasted power will know this.

Right now, he no need to manage anything. He just need to be there and set the tone.

Real competition is not so scary per se. Silicon valley has more real competition (though the Hindutva is destroying that big time now), and she is still the best place for engineers.

The worst is phoney competition. Racism, KKN masked as meritocracy.

This is what we have.

Typo, its 50 years.

LKY unfettered power started around 1985, ended at 2011. That is a whopping 25 years.

He found himself a fucking evil, and lying lackey call Goh Chok Tong. Hand in hand, they screwed Singaporeans.

While Goh Keng Swee is a mother fucker, he still has some heart for Singaporeans. Chok Tong, Kuan Yew and Hsien Loong are totally nut head.

When first generation PAP is still there, we can generally trust 50% of the statistic. Today, I can never trust anything from PAP at all.

When job security is absent, moral and productivity can never be a person's top priority. Why bother to be the best worker when jobs are on year to year contract basis? It does not make sense.

In the past, joining the union can assure one of having bargaining power when it comes to long term employment, but the tripartite nonsence really made a mockery of the trade union movement.

Veritas said...

The job security problem got a lot to do with our corrupt manager class as well as PAP.

Ask you a question. If I fire a senior guy which draw 8k and replace him with another one asking for 3k, will I do it?

This is what that drive Singaporean Chinese managers to fire. This is some sort of "meritocracy" as well.

But FT Indians has 100% different mentality. They would never fire someone and hire another one just to keep cost low.

FT Indians strategy is to fill the whole department with their own village, and to make company captive of themselves. The senior managers can only sit and watch after a department is being captured by FT Indians. Because that department will become unpenetratable.

This is on a whole better survival and parasitic strategy, provided you have a productive host. Its same as looting.

Because India works on such culture, she is shit big time.

I predict the decimation of PMET will only hit Singaporeans, and will not injured FT Indians an iota, not even FT PRC and FT Pinoys. All of them know how to hijack the companies.

Our management class must wake up, and stop screwing our honest workers.

Weird, very weird.
On one hand, we have more and younger PMETs losing their jobs and or having difficulties getting employments.

On another, our rulers want to increase our population to 6.9 millions by 2030 by imported more foreign talents to work here.

How are the Native Singaporeans going to live and survive?

The day when ahnehs were appointed as FM and LM, I know the PM will be fed with lies. Although I do not agree with the way the ruling party runs the country, I still think the ahnehs FMLM ruined the ruling party and the country to a point that cannot be salvaged by collaborating with their counterparts outside the country to con the countrymen.

Veritas said...

Not just FT Indians, but FT PRC and FT Pinoys know how to hijack a company.

My previous companies was hijack by FT PRC. The Singapore senior managers sit and shake cock do nothing. The PRC middle managers do all the work. He hire all PRC.

The senior managers does not know any technical details. They rely on the feedback of PRC. They are afraid PRC will rebel.

Such system is prevalent in the corrupt Singapore management culture. We are damned because of our corrupt elites.

I work in Israel. Most senior managers know the job and they do not shake legs. They can easily replace anyone below them.

No department can ne held captive, if our manager class is diligent.

A salute to Singaporeans PMET.

Guys do 2 years NS, and do 15 years reservist and still able to compete with great FT influx with these handicaps.
And generally still come out among the best PMET in the world. Despite great demands from g..men and family and high costs.

Work probably the hardest in the world. Work probably the honest way and proven consistently reliable. Usually abstain from politicking in work.
Usually able to step up to the plate when given an opportunity.
Singaporean guys PMET are grossly unappreciated. Do very well outside Sing esp in western developed countries when given opportunities.

Singaporean ladies PMET are the world best. Meticulous, careful and reliable. Unbeatable in administration, accounting, HR, event management, operations and risk management.
A strong pillar of our Singapore workforce. Yet still able to take care of husbands and children. Quite amazing.

What a great Singaporean workforce to have!
Singapore will miss you greatly when you are decimated by the very GREAT influx.

But right now, if Hindic people is good why not they lord? That is a big IF. Right now I am not too sure.

Reality bites. And it often hurts.

>> Job security in Sin City is a top most concern to all Singaporeans.

In the vast majority of fields and industries, there is no longer any reality of "job security".

Get over it. Those days are long gone, unlikely to return.

>> Any long break without an income is dire.

Hence the requirement for wise people to live below their means and build up "defenses" for the life's unpredictability.

>> It will only aggravate the already big pool of unemployed PMETs and will cost a heavy strain on the social fabric of our society.

Absolute nonsense. It is a NO BRAINER to simply get another job -- even at lower pay -- in order to survive. In most cases unemployment is VOLUNTARY -- i.e. people simply are too snobbish or too elitist to simply take any job to get by because they lost the one they had. So they rather be out of work. (Assholes)

C'mon, man the fuck up and be "adult" about it, instead of behaving like a spoilt, petulant CHILD.

>> The Govt and MOM cannot be cavalier with this problem as it will hit more and more citizens across all industries.

It is true more (uncompetitive) people will lose their present jobs. However no government and its agencies can fight the market and market competition. No government or its agencies can stand in the way of innovation, drive and creativity of entrepreneurs who create NEW jobs resulting from new enterprises, products and services

Without "creative destruction" no progress is possible.

If politicians of only one party - the PAP -

while politicians of other parties cannot do so without the VWO or NGO being deemed partisan and ineligible for state funding for that reason alone,
this is in effect politicising the VWO/NGO sector in favour of the ruling party.

We ask for a clear statement by the Govt
on the policy towards individual members of VWOs and NGOs engaging in (or being seen to engage in) party political activities in a separate capacity,
be it with the ruling party or opposition parties.

This is about equality and fair play.

You can't, on the one hand, slam the Government for being too corporate friendly and then also blame it for stifled jobs growth. No, you can't have it both ways.

And don't say I never warn you. If come 2016 the PAP doesn't get a resounding mandate, more business will leave, more jobs lost. The scenario will be grimmer, and Singapore may never recover.

Wah. You're still living in a dreamland where you are immersed in the myth of a "level playing field".

There is NO SUCH THING as a level playing field.

COMPETITION assumes that you have "somethng more" to offer than your competitor' thereby making the "field" more advantageous to you. Foreign PMETs are thought to offer "more value" to the employer and therefore they get the jobs.

It's not that "Singaporeans can't compete with FTs". FTs are goibg to compete with the locals WHETHER THE LOCALS LIKE IT OR NOT--balls to you; they are not waiting for you to give them "permission", and they will -- as expected -- play their advantageous hand on a playing field tilted in their favour.

Are you grown-up and adult enpough to handle that? Obviously not.

Competition brings out the best in GOOD people and the WORST in loser-deadshits.

The governement IMO is not pro-business enough. Of course compared to many other territories, they are stack up very well.

I have grave concerns with the conflicts of interest with the PAP folks so wedded to the private sector. The government should be COMPLETELY OUT of the private sector. If not, there'll always be problems with conflict of interest, nepotism etc etc. On a happier note, this incestuous relationship with the private sector is the one that will fuck up the government-- eventually.

If you are a PAP supporter (I'm not), you needn't worry about 2016. Your favourite folks will still be in office in 2020.

If by some fluke an opposition party gets in, I doubt business will collapse in Singapore. Money can be made in a totally communist state -- you just have to know how. Let those who want to leave, leave and fuck off with our curses.

I agree that even if the PAP lose big in 2016, Singapore will not just collapse or business will run away. That is just a tactic used by the PAP, or any ruling party, to install fear in citizens so that they can stay on in power.

Where there is money to be made, people will still come. Why are people now running to Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar even though the situation is still not really conducive, instead of Thailand or Malaysia? Because business thrive with new opportunities, not just political stability.

No one is forced to take a "heavy mortgage". There is such a thing called RENTING or sharing and renting. Not everyone can own a diamond...so not everyone can own a home. You want a home or a diamond or a car or a Piaget watch, be able to pay for it.

Imagine if you whined and kpkb about the fact that you can't afford to own a Piaget watch, so the govt must "subsidise" you or produce a comparable timepiece so you could own one.

People will think you're fucking nuts, and they would be right!

>> you think the Sinkies can afford to take any job and any pay.

I don't think anything as far as "Sinkies" are concerned. Their brain is their business, not mine (and neither should it be yours, you fucknut kay-poh kia).

But I know this:

1. One should live BELOW one's means.

2. One should save for that "rainy day".

3. One should take any job at any pay as a TEMPORARY MEASURE simply to survive and not go backwards.

4. One should never believe in "job security" or any idea of PERMANENCE -- Life is UNCERTAIN.

>> FTs are here competing on an equal basis

You haven't listened to a word I've said. You just suka suka gasak buta.

I already said there is NO SUCH THING as a LEVEL PLAYING FIELD. The FTs don't give a shit about your stupid "rules" -- they will come and compete toe to toe with you, welcomed by the employers with blessings by the government.
