Legally when a new citizen is given his pink IC and citizenship certificate he is a citizen of the country. There is no dispute to that. But emotionally, psychologically, intentionally, socially, how many of the new citizens are really the citizens like the true blue local citizens? Or when will a new citizen be really like a local citizen, emotionally and psychologically embracing this country as his country, his home? How many are just here for economic gains, for economic expediency, citizens of convenience, and planning another foot to get out at the next opportunity when this place is no longer useful or as attractive as before?
Over the last ten years or so, we may have given at least half a million citizenships to new citizens and many more as PRs. The statistics in favour of citizens in jobs and employment, in housing allocations etc are misleading in this sense as many went to new citizens at the expense of true blue citizens. This is a serious matter that must not go unnoticed and unspoken of. What are the real benefits and disadvantages that have befallen our native citizens?
Of the 5.3m population now, how many are true blue citizens if we exclude those new citizens that are less than 5 or 10 year old? Where are the statistics on this?
If Sinkies are now the absolute minority or going to be, then why should Sinkies be made to do NS to protect a country of foreigners? Should not the pay/allowance of NS men be raised to market value as they are now more like mercenaries hired not to serve country and people but foreigners and their assets? Why are Sinkies slogging and suffering in the field doing NS while foreigners are taking over their cushy jobs and speculating in properties to make money from Sinkies?
Has anything changed? Are the fundamentals of nationhood and national defence changed?

Our children will no need serve NS, our army will all be Professional Army, starting pay is $2800 + overtime pay for recruit. Song song. Bonus is 13th month. Suka you join, not suka, don't join, we all can live with smaller army. Because no threats mah, got threat, China our good friend will rush army protect us. Why lei ? Not sure, just my gut feeling, and we can pay them.
Reach 55, all sinky can withdraw all money from CPF, swee swee, go batam, go Casino, buy toto, buy house and buy shares for investment. Lost money never mind. We all can take care of ourselves.
If sick no money how? Why worry ? Govt must take care of citizens, heavily subsidised health care at 1st world standards. Subsidise at cost or market? Of course at cost lah! You still dare to ask ? Else I vote you out ah!
Country wise, I don't want so many people. The best is no HDB block in front of me. I want wide vistas of open field and nice river, with birds and wildlife. Definitely NO old folks home in front of my block. You want old folks home go build one is district 9 and 10. MRT must also be empty most of the time, at most, 50% occupied 85% of the time. MRT make money ? Dare to make ?? I slap you then you know.

I feel the citizens pain and I agree with Redbean. I feel squeezed out by the foreigners who come and take advantage of us. We must fight for our rights.
"Are the fundamentals of nationhood and national defence changed?" - they can change anytime since they are in almost absolute power. When they have fished enough dumb people, they can be conscripted to fight a war with M under the propaganda to have enough food. M should more worry than sinkies.
In other words, half of west M can fall into Ah Kong hands anytime when the population hits 7m. People in sinky will be hungry for land and space and a war will seem to be the only option. All the jets and arms can be put to good use instead of depreciating year after year on the MOD shelves. All the monies spent training naive people can be put to use. Just calculating the returns of those investment will make those sitting in the lux ivory towers jumping up and down with excitemet. M should be worry.

Probably not as many as some would like to believe, but there will be true-blue's from the foreigner stock, no doubt.
Fact is you cannot base policy or judgement by thinking you can read someone else's mind or figure out their "true" intentions.
Therefore you can only make judgement on the "objective" o factuals. for e.g.
1. The foreigner is a legal immigrant
2. He fulfils the conditions and requirements for citizenship
3. He's paid taxes
4. He observes and complies with the laws of the land.
If "pass" on all -- give the bugger a citizenship if he wants.
Note: some of the locals don;t even fulfil those requirements. They have citizenship and think that their rights are simply based on their mothers' chau ji bai's expelling them as babies into the world...in Singapore territory.
