Punggol East – The big disconnect

The biggest statement of the result of this by election is the big disconnect PAP is experiencing without knowing. PAP claimed that it is doing everything for the people and is with the people. And all the policies are carefully thought out and implemented for the good of the people. Obviously the people in Punggol East did not buy it. And if this is what the people across the island are thinking, the days of PAP in power will be over very soon. How could PAP and all its pro people policies that are good for the people ended up in losing this by election? The PAP must believe that everything it did is for the good of the people, and it still believes so. But does the PAP know that the people do not believe so?

And the PAP is still believing that it lost because it was a by election and by election is always unfavourable to the ruling party. How wrong can it be and when is the PAP going to face the truth and see the ground as what it really is? The ground has changed, the people are unhappy with the policies and therefore the govt. Get it?

On the WP side, it has read the ground well and actually is connecting with the people, the citizens who wanted change. There is a big connect between the WP and the people in Hougang, Aljunied and now Punggol East. Where has the PAP been all these years to lose touch with the ground? What a statement! How could the PAP lose touch with the ground when it has so many grassroot leaders and institutions on the ground?

But surely something has gone wrong, something badly wrong. I try to figure out but couldn’t. I also cannot see anything wrong. So I rather believe that nothing is wrong. It is only a by election and in such election, the ruling party is always at a disadvantage. In the next GE the people will definitely vote the PAP back to power to ensure their own prosperity. Nothing to worry about.

As for Koh Poh Koon, he is likely to continue to serve the voters in Punggol East, and likely to be appointed as the grassroot advisor, to walk the ground, to connect with the people. He is still new and would want to hang around unlike some who quit politics immediately after losing an election.

The only similarity between the old PAP and the current adulterated PAP is the white uniform and the lightning.

We have to thank the nation-building Pravda S Times for this disconnect.

The other difference is in the white uniform.

The current PAP's white trousers has a big brown stain at the seat of the pants.
The new colour came out immediately after the election results were announced.

Dear PM Lee:
For the sake of our beloved Singapore (and your beloved PAP), read up on how George W Bush "woke up" during the final months of his presidency.

I sincerely hope Singapore history will remember you fondly.

The crux of most of our problems is the relentless influx of foreigners. It just drives up everything: housing, transportation, suppressed wages, retrenchment/displacements, changes in social milieus, national identity, working environment. But I don't think the PAP see it that way. Already there are talks about pushing the population to 7 million. Good luck to the PAP. The voters of PE have spoken.

Simple; self-serving interests of PAP elites & grassroot leaders are actually working against the interests of majority of Singaporeans, and becoming obvious.

It is very difficult to change as lucrative self-serving interests have to be abandoned. MONEY INTERESTS entrenched.

Pardon me for saying that diconnect is one of those overused words. Trust is another. The fact is that PAP under the son is the same as that under the father.Any perceived difference is the result of massive propaganda by the media and picked up by so-called experts you find everywhere nowadays.Remember that LKY once declared that all he needed to run Singapore are 200 handpicked mandarins?.The rest of the country can then leave it to him and his chosen one to do as they see fit.Behind the programmes and policies you allude to and put in place by the son is that same thinking. In short they are telling the people that they know better despite the evidence to the contrary. Psychologists may call such people delusional, like the doomsday believers but the consequences for Singapore will be disastrous. For instance, DBS Vickers is reported to have said that the White Paper on Population Growth has set a target of 7 million in the next few years. The country is already suffering from having this sudden surge of people to 5million and they want to increase it to 7 million? The WP victory should jolt the PAP into relooking their policies, yet the PM is reported to have said that they have already put in place policies which will improve the lives of the people.Do we need and Arab Spring or an Occupy Wall Street movement before they see sense?

Chinese idioms for yr weekend reading:

“Using pretty words to cover up faults” (文過飾非, pronounced wén guò shì fēi) is a Chinese idiom that refers to using eloquent words to gloss over a mistake, conceal a fault, or cover up a wrongdoing.

“the frog at the bottom of a well” (井底之蛙, pronounced jǐng dǐ zhī wā)

This story advises people that only by broadening their horizons and letting go of their preconceived notions can they liberate their minds to accept and understand higher principles.

As long as PAP brings in elites to stand for elections, they will likely to lose in SMC. Better chance for GRC but this advantage is likely to erode away soon. 2016 is the Point of No Return. Either PAP make through or Singapore is going to see a phenomenal change in politics. My prediction is that splinter parties will be formed out of PAP because those in PAP who worked hard to truely serve the people realise there is no future for them as PAP just parachute new elites to the front, some like Dr. Koh is onlt two weeks old. It is disheartening for those believe in true politics. PAP has been successful in the past but less so now because it cannot attract any talent. Those induced from civil service and army cannot be counted since they are not tested in the first place. Got IQ but most without EQ. Its Goodbye to the old party soon.

Wp, please come to amk grc in 2016

Will Dr. Koh follow George Yeo to "follow the flow"? --> Disappear

Watching the speech from TCH from Yahoo news, you will know that:

PAP is doing everything for Singapore and not "doing everything for the people and is with the people".

They are elected by the people but they just ignore the people and put the people right at the bottom.

WTF!!!

I feel the Singapore is actually run by Tamasek Holdings owned by the familee. PAP is merely a proxy for TH whose role is to make money for the company and enrich familee.

The MIWs might speed up taking in new citizens to balance up the support erosion in the coming years. If it happens, it would split the country into half and who knows what will happen. Looks like more ATs, Nehs and Pinoys and I pray not.

Not about the big disconnect or lose touch with the ground.
Its daft sinkies who do not know how to appreciate what is good for them. The only thing they lose touch is they never take my hint.
I foresee that CSJ will back out last minute and hinted to put woman contestant but too bad,no one take my hint.Though I am a victim of injustice,I secretly hope thatthey are given some time to prove their worth.
When they mention Dr Koh instead of any woman candidate,I know leow leow.Lost to charbor is the worst insult for men.I oso paiseh.
Let see what Ah Lian can do and how connected she is.

As for Koh Poh Koon,
he getting a extra salary as grassroot advisor without doing anything drastic for his job, and any idiot can tell that he will not be worth the salary consider the lack of commitment to serve amid of his already extraordinary commitments. He already hold so many appointments and given his job at hospital, you think he have time for the people ? He say one must be realistic and practical, and so did he practice what he preach ? Is he realistic and practical to use taxpayer's money for doing nothing worthwhile ?

This clown really win in the end. Lose the election, he also endup been paid as grassroot advisor and still keep his existing appointment and jobs. All Win for this clown.

Redbean,
what do you think ?

We need to find good reasons so that the Pro Alien Traitors will continue to stay in their ivory tower until GE 2016.

So Dear PAPigs
Here are some good reasons why you lost the Punggol East by-elections;

1. It's a by-elections. It's the same everywhere in the world. The ruling party always loses.

2. PAP got 43% of the votes in a by-elections. A very strong performance indeed. It shows that Singaporeans support PAP's policies.

3. Dr Koh, a 4 week old politician garnered 43% of the votes in a by-election. Compared with more experienced politicians like Desmond Lim and Kenneth Jeyaretnam

This shows that he is an excellent politician. PAP will win if they field him again in GE 2016 against WP's LLL.

4. There is nothing wrong with PAP's policies. You just need to improve your communication processes. National Conversation will ensure that Singaporeans will be fully behind PAP by GE 2016.

5. Lee Kuan Yew should have been brought out to help with getting more votes for Dr Koh. This was not done and is a strong reason for the loss. This mistake must not be repeated in GE 2016.

It would seem that the PAP progressively refused to connect with the ground, instead preferring to emphasise the importance of pandering and listening to those at the top - the elites, rich foreigners, scholars and apple-polishers and boot-lickers. These are the ones least likely to be affected by high property prices, high health care cost, transport woes and high cost of living. On the contrary, they are the ones most likely to push up everything in their wake, contributing to the GDP growth target set by the PAP.

The time frame for change is short and Singaporeans may well have little chance to do so after GE 2016, so they have to make their vote decisive during the 2016 GE. This is because the PAP Government is still dead set on importing another million or so new citizens, by which time opposition voters will be largely marginalised.

LKY can rule for so long cos there is no internet then. His dirty tricks can be performed without many knowing it. He probably regretted many of his misdoing when internet was out cos he will be another one that did not fight with honour and respect.

I hope the people continue to give power to the alternative parties so that many bad policies can be improved. After 50 years of good economic performance and people still are struggling with bread and butter issues, PAP has failed without doubt.

January 27, 2013 3:31 pm,

to continue with new points

6. Singapore is democratic under PAP. Nevermind PAP resort to gerrymandering, vote buying, lack of accountability and transparency, fixing opp party, use state resource to finance political activities under PA and RC, divert state asset at undervalue price using PAP proxy company , mass converting foreigners to citizens to gain vote, increase property tax without genuine reason, , use state media to promote political party and activities etc. And will continue to do more of it , and still it is democratic.

Every regime whether democracy or meritocracy or aristocracy has dark sides. Or they are just bullshit by some ruling class in USUK. The important thing is whether the country is in the hands of righteous people.

The lost by PAP could due to:
1. PAP's policy of using only elites for top jobs.
2. The use of parachuting someone from nowhere. As aspiring grassroot leader, how would you feel each time you are bypass by scholars from outside.
3. Too many generals and civil servants. They generally only say yes and do nothing more than instructed.
4. The mnisters and MPs are hidding in aircind comfort. Never inter mingle with people on the ground.
5. Grassroots leaders are fed up since only scholars get promoted. They do not give true feedback.
6. PAP believes it is invincible and so there is no need to buy-in. Keep the people in the dark and feed them with bullshit.
7. MSM which supposed to be the ears and eyes of ruling party is busy carry balls. No help to PAP except helping them to bull the people.

Continue this way, PAP is goining to lose big time during the next GE. What do you think?

The PAP should sack the campaign strategists - the paper general and the auctioneer, TSL, TSL, TSL.
