How serious is the problem of fake degrees?

There are more than half a million PRs in the island plus many that have taken up citizenship. Assuming half of the PRs are FTs, ie professionals that are the equivalent of our PMETs, it means that there are easily 250k of them working here.

There have been complaints or rumours that are many FTs are here on fake degrees, unqualified or half qualified. There is no official statistics so far on the size of this problem and no one really knows how serious is this problem. What are the implications to the country if 10% of the FT qualifications are fakes? This does not take into account that many came from educational institutions where the quality/standard of education is sub par or even suspect.

The most obvious and painful problem is for such FTs to be employed at the expense of Sinkies, taking away Sinkies’ jobs. And many fakes could be the superiors of the Sinkies. And they are going to be paid more, to determine the fate of Sinkies and the performance of the organizations. Depending on the industries they are in, any mistake can be very serious and costly or deadly, eg in construction of buildings, housing and infrastructure, in medicine, in engineering, in food technology and science.

While this problem is festering and only passed around as rumours, not many seem to have surfaced and the cheats taken to task. Maybe it is all simply rumours and there is not much truth in it as the statistics said so. Maybe the numbers of offenders are not disclosed thus no one is panicking. Not seen, not heard, thus no problems.

How can such problems be tackled both at the organization and industry level and at the national level? Are there organizations that can check and verify the qualifications of FTs to minimize the problem, to give justice to Sinkies and the professions that hired them and the end products or services they rendered?

Sometimes I regretted not getting myself a fake degree when being offered .It doesn't pay to be honest.
I tried speaking to some Pinoy FT who claim to be degree holders ,but found my primary 4 english is better and more fluent than them.
But uncle. At least those who possess fake degree have the courage to try their luck. Sinkies can only be proud on their honesty.Never be jealous of those who dare to take risk.
Try to have some faith in our Authority lah.

We have the most ministers and each looking after a small department as compared to our neigbour or developed countries. Yet we still get screwed by all these fakes. Why pay so much? What do you think?

What about real certificates in the possessions of Fake Talents without the intellect?

Actually bosses know Singaporeans are more competent in many cases. If we are really fxxx up, how can we build one of the richest countries in the world.

But entrench office politics, the drive for low cost, the self-preservation of managers against the threat of good young man, has spawn insatiable demands for FT.

Hi RB

You want the truth? Can you handle the truth? :)

I can't imagine myself working under one with a fake cert. The thought of it is unbearable. Imagine our top scholars working under one who failed and did not have a degree but owning a fake one.

I had the experience of seeing through one case recruited by a subsidiary company. The poor guy went to jail for it.

Oops, my apologies for this late reply. I can pledge my blog, no problem. Just check and copyright is not affected.

They should just only allow people with degrees from the top 200 universities. The rest should not be considered at all.

A database can be created to record all the graduates of these universities or the gov can establish a link with these universities to check on past graduates.

The shitty thing is that our graduates from world class universities locally and overseas are losing out to graduates from doubtful and unrecognisable or third rate universities. How silly can things become. Could these policies be approved by super talents or shitty talents?

There must be justice to recognise the quality of our talents from reputable and highly regarded univerities. It is unfair and discriminatory for our graduates to make way for questionable graduates and worst, fake degrees.

So what are you going to do about it?
Vote Opposition?
I don't think you have the guts.

one superb example of ft with fake degree is Yeo Meng Hin, former Chief Operating Officer of SMRT, crony of saw phaik hwa. he was HRmanager at DFS, working with saw when she was the boss of the duty free retail company. he has a degree in economics from nus and a fake MBA from the well-known fake university, the University of Phoenix (google and find out yourself). he is or was malaysian, perhaps s'pore citizen now or still a pr. he was the second highest paid officer in smrt, earning almost 900k+ a year. a chief operating officer of a billion dollar train/transport company with no engineering degree and a fake MBA is simply mind-boggling. only in corrupt foreign-trash-ass kissing singapore is it possible. he is still enjoying life with his millions, probably doing more damage in some s'pore company.

yeo meng hin is now back to his old position as a human resource manager. now with singapore dhl.

Anyone will be furious if he came to know that the asshole ordering him around and getting paid more than him is not qualified and lesser educated than him. How many of such cases are existing and going on now?

Having a degree -- fake or "real" is no guarantee that a person is capable in delivering productive output.

I'm suspicious and skeptical of such licenses and "qualifications". I'm more interested in what a person's achievements are.

Any lowly intern working in Human Resources already knows that educational qualifications only tell part of the story. The fact that they can be faked so easily and cheaply from the myriad of degree mills is common knowledge, most people doing the hiring are aware.

However now and then, a few fuckers manage to con their way. This is to be expected.

Actually the worst part is the gov is not doing anything about it despite being overly paid. Is that lazy, incompetent or simple cannot be bothered to care?

I take offence being called a "sinkie". I am proud of my nationality, and I am Singaporean, although I do not support the ruling party.

Nowhere in the world do people ridicule their own country or nationality, except in Singapore. I am not proud of this.

Only redbeans sink. They are the real "sinkies".

You don't mind being called daft?
