The Verdict: 93% say Singapore governed well

Reach has done a survey and the results are very comforting and encouraging. 80% are confident of the economic future, 87% say the country is corruption free, 92% happy with the quality of education and a smaller percentage still not comfortable with the cost of living. With so many happy people, let's ignore the unhappy voices, at least for now as we are celebrating the National Day. Maybe we should brush aside all these irritating voices or better, ask them to pack up and go. The survey was conducted on 1558 Singaporeans. The sample size is definitely much bigger than the bloggers in mysingaporenews. Here we have a very happy and contented Singaporeans against maybe 5 or 6 unhappy Singaporeans. If I were to conduct a poll here, I think the happiness index will be at most 20%. But that will be unfair. A sample size of 5 or 6 and from a generally biased group in cyberspace, you can expect what the result shall be. Reach has done a good job in having a sample size of 1558, good number for 4D, and from a neutral group. The result should be more representative of the perception of the population. Now this is something we can celebrate for this National Day.

I am a hardcore non-believer of surveys, any surveys.

The result is very much deter by the sampling pool, size and how the survey questionaires are "designed".

Survey is used by many as a tool to help convince other people.

Hehe,

Only unhappy, unfulfilled people got the time to rant on the net. The happy, contented ones go shopping, play golf, happy hours and continue making more money. I am the odd man out. Well, not really, as I find your blog entertaining whilst watching my computer screens monitoring the world's financial markets. Anyway, like I said before, your blog will be very boring if it carries only the comments of unhappy Singaporeans. I add balance with my comments although some ostriches have accused me of being a dreamer. :-)

Does happiness make a person rude? Maybe yes.

Hehe,

The pot calling the kettle black or is it the chicken clucking like an old hen to the Rooster?

Haha.

Laughing My Ass Off.

Happiness makes a person confident.

Ostriches are not confident because they always dig a hole in the ground and with their claws, bury their head in the hole and choose not to see how the world is doing around them and that others too have a right to a say no matter how distasteful that view is perceived to be.

uncle wally, what's happening to your sense of humour?

Some species see and assumed other species to be another specific kind when it fails to admit that it is actually the same kind. Otherwise, why that species who name other species is able to understand the characteristics of the other species so well to be able to name that species? That name-calling species must be the same species he named the other species to be.

Uncle Redbean,

Some ostriches who can't even write proper English is in bad shape because she can't extricate her swollen head from the ground. Hehe. Should I say "It" instead of "She"? Sorry, my English too is failing me.! :-))

Here's a gem for you.

The horse urine snifflers, Matilah and to a lesser extent, I, add value to your blog with our comments. If only horse shitters post, you might end up talking to yourself. Hehe.

uncle wally, a blog is only active if it can attract good bloggers. but being the uncles here, we shouldn't be too grouchy even if it is our right of being uncles to be grouchy.

hi jaunty, please foregive the grouchiness of old uncles. it is what being old is all about. soon we don't even know who we are.

cheers.

Redbean,

I commented over the topic of survey, the thread did not continue but digressed into some foul languages.

The Survey maybe right, 'governed well' per se is no big deal. It could mean that the place is safe, no serious social and political problem exists and most live peacefully though not happily.

There is NO claim that THE PEOPLE ARE HAPPY BEING GOVERNED

AND

THE GOVERNORS KNOW FEW CITIZENS ARE HAPPY. They on on tiger's backs and waiting for safe dismounts. They WILL HAVE TO DEPEND ON THEIR LUCKS just like the way the people have to for economic recovery in SIN.

I too don't trust surveys because they don't follow the scientific method, and it is easy for the creators of the survey to skew the conclusions to bolster their position. This is a no brainer, kids do it all the stime, and get away with it.

Personally, I don't think s'pore is governed well enough. The govt over the years has been becoming too relaxed. They should lift their game and regulate the citizens more, until the government runs the whole ball of wax, and no one can do anything without permission.

Only then will I agree s'pore is well governed

Chua Chin Leng aka redbean said...

now i can't disagree with that. governing well must be 100% rock solid control.
