Walter Woon the romantic

A few months back when Chan Sek Keong spoke to the young lawyers, he raised the problem of pay and shortage of lawyers. And as expected, he in a way suggested that the solution is to pay them more, a time tested and no need to sweat the small stuff type of solution. Yesterday Walter Woon made an appeal to young lawyers to work with him in the name of altruism, to serve with a sense of public duty. He wanted 'to attract lawyers who will look beyond financial gains. For saying this, he must be totally out of synch with the great Singapore mentality. Where got smart people work not for money? And lawyers are smart people. But I like this fellow. After so many years in the establishment, he has not been seduced by greed, that money is everything in life. In a way he is a romantic inside, a little like me. It is refreshing and healthy at this point in time to still be able to find such a man in public service. I thought they were extinct. A little idealism and romanticism is good for the soul. Anyway he need not worry that no young lawyers will join him. A big pay rise is on the card and coming very soon.

He is an evil man. Be careful of this guy.

Altruism as inherently evil. This is because man, as a matter of fact, like all living creatures, acts to further his own life.

Altruism teaches man that his most basic imperative is evil, and thereby engenders in man an irredeemable guilt.

A person's life is an end in itself. We are not born for the purpose of sacrificing our lives for "others".

i must say that there are some truth in what you say. man needs to kill to live. and man is killing daily for his own survival.

but if man can balance the instinct and need to kill and the goodness to share, then man will separate himself from being just animal.

before i get misunderstood, i really like this fella. we need more of such people to balance the ever growing dark side.

may the force be with him.

Where did I say man needs to kill to live?

Hey redbean, please don't misinterpret what I've written. You did this to me before. I'm asking you nicely.

If you like this fella, good for you.

Man is not an "animal" in the sense that he doesn't have control over his animal-instincts. Man has volitional consciousness and thus must make MORAL CHOICES in order to live. Otherwise, you have a species hell-bent killing, stealing and cheating...and no one could trust anyone.

There is no such thing as "balance" between good and evil in a person. Either you are upright and moral, or you are not and need to do some work on yourself.

my goodness matilah,

beef steak, pork chop, lamb chop, steam fish, these are taken from livestocks, living things.

man killed to live. not necessarily killing humans, but they do kill humans for their own interests and survival.

Thank you for clarifying the context.

But I still didn't say that man needs to kill to live. Those were your words, not mine.

'man kills to live' is a famous quote of redbean.
i have been using this phrase for many times in many of my posts.
