Planning and predictability

These two elements are core to the success of Singapore. Everything is planned, very well planned indeed, and very predictable. And now they are planning and scouting for the next PM-to-be in 18 years time. And the net is cast wide to quitters overseas. The strange thing is that why aren't the opposition parties also plan and scout around for their PM in waiting? Have they already conceded that for the next 18 years the PAP will remain in power and will fill the PM post with its own candidate? Well, I think the PAP is right. And so are the opposition parties. In 18 years time, the PM will still come from the PAP stable.

I wouldn't worry about this.

Central planning has failed everytime it has been tried. For e.g. the "stop at two" policy of the 60's and 70's has dire present consequences in that S'pore is now an AGING society.

Society, culture and the political economy are all spontaneous orders—like the weather, the forest, the universe. There is NO central planner involved, and spontaneous orders will resist any attempt to "plan" any form of outcome.

the funny thing about life is that whatever we do that we think is good is going to destroy us tomorrow. there is no escape from this.

anything we schemed, which we think will solve the immediate problem, will become a problem itself.

a revolutionary came to save the people but will be the problem for the people in times to come.

what a queer world.
