nkf story - The decaying morality of a people

The decaying morality of a people I have been harping over this issue in several of my posts in the last few days. I am no priest or saint. But there is still little ability left in me to know what is decent what is indecent. Shanmugam has been having a field day exhausting every vocabulary that he could think of to describe the culprits of this shameful saga and the conspiracy to deceive, to cheat and to betray the trust of the humble masses as well as the supertalents. What is unfortunate so far is that some sector of the great talents are painting a different picture. It is like telling the innocent masses that corruption, cheating, embezzlement, lying, passing misinformation, misleading the public etc are alright as long as one done it smartly, and professionally, using all the best management strategies and methods and concepts. The message is simple. Cheat smartly and you will be well respected, well regarded, and be welcomed as one of the supertalents. And if you can command an equally high salary, you can join the company of the super earners. There is no right or wrong. There is only money and talent. The more talent one has, the more money one deserves to make, the more one is respected. So what, going to court? It is just a birthday party. Pay your fine and everything will be over. Anyway you have cheated so much money that you can pay whatever fine the court hands down. But better still, tell the court that all the money have been spent, so nothing to pay. And continue laughing at all the silly people who have trusted you with their money that becomes your money. And walk with the head held high, as a well respected member of the supertalents in this country that worships talent and money. Lets keep praising them. It is only a management error or failure to do one's duty. Nothing more to it.

Morality according to who, Redbean ? Like you always say, people will always look at things from their own perspective. So, maybe for you what the old NKF clowns did was morally wrong, but according to them they did no wrong because they believed they deserve some extra perks and privileges for the hard work they put in to raise funds for the charity. So, whose view is 'right' ?

hi morality is relative,

welcome to the blog. i agree with what you said. morality is relative and personal. i have no problems watching crazy horses but some will have.

everyone has his own reference point on what is good or bad. ultimately one only answers to his own conscience. everyone should have his own freedom to choose his level of morality. but then as a country, should there by some reference point that is acceptable to the masses, to draw ob markers?

If you set your own conscience as a benchmark, then all hell will break loose. Many people have no conscience, so how ?

Chua Chin Leng aka redbean said...

you are right again.

fortunately or unfortunately, real or false, there is a belief that there is a supreme being or karma. if these cannot deter those without conscience, nothing will. then these people will live under the law of survival of the fittest, the animal kingdom.

the weak will become little creatures to be stamped upon. the brutal truth will take on a brutal meaning: )

If that's so, then it is pointless to talk about decaying morals since many people do not subscribe to such idalistic notions.

NKF is not corrupted, and is full of glory as envisaged by PAP because it is just "an honest mistake" and therefore public should "move on".

Please note since the modern argument, is that everything is relative and that there are no absolute moral standards, so why the surprise, welcome to the world of neo or paleo liberalism

Chua Chin Leng aka redbean said...

hi wang,

thanks for your contribution on neo and paleo liberalism. let me put it in another term, how about slippery morality?

imagine if god compromise his position with slippery morality? this world could be more fun, yeah.

luckily god is unbending and unyielding. only slippery people will make do with slippery morality. and i am not god.

NKF was an honest mistake. We have put in place measures to make sure it does not happen again. why don't we just let bygone be bygone and let's move on.

PAP and gov are an honest mistake. We have put in place measures to make sure it does not happen again. why don't we just let bygone be bygone and let's move on. We will control internet media and find some carrot to sue so to let those carrot will get frightened and become obedient again, and they will remember that they are in fact nothing but carrot.

If am working hard, standing all day at the mrt station asking for donations for a charity organisation, is it just morally wrong or is it a crime if I were to dig out some coins from the collecting can to buy myself a drink? Or, would anyone says I deserve such perks and privileges?

Chua Chin Leng aka redbean said...

ya, let bygone by bygones. the govt should declare amnesty for all those involved in the nkf fiasco and all be forgiven.

but for those who took a dollar from the donation tin, please put back the money. we must not encourage children to steal from the donation box.

Anonymous said...

I agree we must not encourage children to be dishonest.

Redbean, I put it to you that you would like to see blood in the NKF saga. What has happened to compassion and forgiveness. What is done cannot be undone. Lets move on.

i do not know any of the actors and actresses in this case. i do not care what will happen to them. but this case is a big scam. it is a very well organised scam, systematically carried out by a group of people with a clear intention to deceive to benefit themselves. it is worst than any of the nigerian scam. and the consequences are monumental.

can the govt actually say forgive and forget and lets move on? what happen to the rest of the petty crimes and petty thieves? and what happen if something bigger than this crops up?

if people are sent to jail for shop lifting or career destroyed for cheating on taxi fares, there is no way but for the law to take its full course.

what is seriously wrong about this case is the issues of value, ethics and morals. what is this country all about? what does our govt stand for? is corruption, cheating, swindling, an acceptable social behaviour? we can't be another third world nation when such things are part and parcel of our social system.

not only the whole public is watching, the whole world is watching, and in amasement at the scale of the scam, so pervasive, and been allowed to perpetuate for so long in this squeaky clean country. people are now suspecting and smelling more foul in more places.

as the story unfolds, who in his right mind now will dare to stand out and say lets move on?

Chua Chin Leng aka redbean said...

why i keep belabouring this issue? other than the actors and actresses showing total disregard to the feelings of the people and their wrongdoings, there are many people still praising these talents and supporting them.

the forgiveness can only come after the admission of guilt and a sincere demonstration to beg for forgiveness. when nobody thinks that there is any wrong, there is no need to talk about forgiveness.

just like the war crimes the japanese committed against the chinese and koreans. how can the chinese and koreans forgive the japanese when the latter refused to admit their crimes?

RedBean, shouldn't get too angry afterall just an honest mistake by actor and actress much like government. Let's move on. It's better to taste the medicine now than later.

We Singaporean lead by the gov always make honest mistake all the time. Our gov is our lead model. One honest mistake after another and we still grow strong, bigger and baddier.

Even our newspaper most of the time make an honest mistake of just not telling the truth.

So forgive the gov, media and con-men for their very honest mistake. Forgive HoJinx too, if she jinx Singapore, because she too is an honest mistake.

Everything in Singapore is an honest mistake even if one day your job get replaced by FT or you receive a pay cut, it is still consider honest mistake.

Next time, if you tell lie, do say it is a truthful lie because it will help you to move on and be forgiven.

Durai should be forgiven and be consider hero because he has a honest morality.

IS THIS PERSON A RETARD??

Redbean, quit the melodrama la. Whole world is watching ? Who are you trying to kid ? My neighbour here in Auckland when I ask him whether he knows about the NKF saga in Singapore just gave me a blank look. So typical of Singaporeans to think they are the centre of the world. I dare say 60% of Americans don't even know that Singapore even exists or even if they do probably think you're some province of China.

Chua Chin Leng aka redbean said...

to anonymous who told me not to get angry. you have made such a convincing argument and i have to agree with you and let bygones be bygones.

hi drama king,

welcome to the blog. and thanks for peeping in from NZ. i like your nick. it explains everything. a little drama makes more interesting reading.

it is like the americans claiming that the world is supporting their fight in iraq. but such phrases have to be read figuratively.

good that you are perceptive to little details.

life must be very pleasant it those two beautiful islands.

hi drama king,

please feel free to disagree with what we are saying. that is your view and we respect that. we need differences of opinion in order to have a good discussion and hopefully both sides can see a different viewpoint.
